4  Type of site: video sharing  In a nutshell: Google owned, available in 25 languages,  Launched: 15.February 2005  Features:  A video sharing platform that allows you to upload and share videos  Allows you to customize your own YouTube “channel” which lists videos of your choosing, both those you or others create.  Allows you to manage comments on your channel and uploaded videos.  Helps you keep track of who is watching your videos  Similar: Dailymotion, Metacafe, Nico Nico Douga, Openfilm

5  1. From YouTube’s home page (www.youtube.com), click on “Create Account” in the upper right hand corner.  2. Create a username – use a generic username that will serve as the same username for all social media accounts that you create. Check availability.  3. Fill out any date of birth, gender, and postal code.  4. Both check boxes I recommend should be unchecked.  5. Click “I accept”.

6  6. Create a YouTube account using a generic email address that your social networks can share. Use a different password, however, as this will prevent an account from being compromised.  7.Uncheck "Enable Web History".  8. Fill out the Word Verification.  9. Click "Create New Account and Finish".

7  1. It’s important to set up your channel profile so that your users know something about your channel.  2. Go to your account name, and select “Account” from the dropdown box.  3. Click on “Profile Setup” on the left hand side.  4. Upload an image that is clear and represents your channel. Make sure you have all rights to this image.  5. Fill out the description, Embassy URL and name portions of the profile.

9  1. Once you’ve logged in, go to your account name in the upper right corner of the page and select the “Account” link.  2. Click on “Privacy” in the list on the left.  3. Uncheck the box labeled “Please use my account information to provide me with relevant advertising.”  4. Save Changes.

10  1. Once you’ve logged in, go to your account name in the upper right corner of the page and select the “My Videos” link.  2. In the list on the left side “playlists” click on “New”.  3. Give title, description and playlist tags for your playlist,  4. Click on “Create playlist “

11  1. Fill out the Description and Tags for the playlist.  2. Be sure to translate the description and tags into local languages so that your users will be able to find the videos in searches.  3. Save changes once complete.  4. Upload an image that is clear and represents your channel. Make sure you have all rights to this image.  5. Fill out the description, URL and name portions of the profile.

12  Now that you have your playlist created, start uploading videos to add to it.  1. Click on “Upload” in the upper right hand  2. Browse to the video you want to upload then click “Upload Video.”  3. Make sure you have full rights to potentially copyrighted videos before uploading them.

13  1. Add a title, description and tags to your video. Be sure to include information in local language if necessary.  2. Select the Category for the video.  3. Keep the “Share your video with the world” selected.  4. Click “Save Changes” when done.  5. You may save these changes even if the video hasn’t uploaded completely yet.  6. Once the video has finished uploading – this will take some time depending on how big the file is – you will see the word “Success” at the top right of your screen.  7. You can click on Browse to upload another video or click on “Go to My Videos” to continue.

14 You will now see the video you uploaded in your list of uploaded videos. Now you need to add the video to a playlist. 1. Click the check mark next to the video you want to add to your playlist. 2. Click on “Add to” from the playlist list of videos. 3. Check the box next to the playlist you would like to add your video to. 4. Click “Add to Playlist” 5. The video you uploaded should now show up under the playlist you designated.
