1 SI = Système Internacional d’Unités
Metric Review Notes SI = Système Internacional d’Unités Temperature Table to summarize (type, what to use, standard unit)

2 Basic Units Length = meter Mass = gram Volume = Liters

3 Prefixes “Kangaroos Hopping Down My Driveway Carrying M&M’s”
“King Henry Died Many Deaths Counting Money” Kilo hecto deka m,L,g deci centi milli 1,000x x x x

4 Measuring Length Be exact!
Don’t round off; measure in mm and then convert to cm Example: = _____ mm or _____ cm

5 Measuring Volume Determine the value of each line on the graduated cylinder you are using. Read the meniscus! WRONG! RIGHT!

6 Measuring Mass Be sure the scale is set to 0.
Start with largest mass, slide (into slots) until too much, then move back one. Go to next mass and repeat Step 2 until smallest slider gets arrow to point to 0. Add all masses together. Be EXACT, include tenths of a gram.

7 Conversions Use scale Count # of places you move on the scale and move that # of decimal places. Kilo hecto deka m,L,g deci centi milli 1,000x x x x

8 Temperature SI unit = Celsius Properties of Water
(Conversion Equation: °F = °C × 9⁄5 + 32) C = F x 5/9 - 32 Fahrenheit Celsius Freezing Point 32˚F 0˚C Boiling Point 212˚F 100˚C
