6 Business Process Improvements is Priority
“Integrating and enhancing existing systems and processes is the most frequently cited technology priority.” State of the CIO Survey 2007, CIO Magazine “The 30 Most Important IT Trends for 2007” November 2006 IT has become core to all functions in companies. As IT is no longer limited to back office processes, IT is critical to companies process improvement and process transformation initiatives. So IT leaders are looking at Business Process Management as a priority beyond just implementing functional applications. Rapid changes in business requirements is requiring IT to find innovative approaches to stay responsive. At the same time, they are expected to do so at reduced costs. “When business and IT executives jointly take an end-to-end look at business processes, the resulting investments can have up to ten times the impact of traditional IT cost reduction efforts.” Managing IT in a Downturn: Beyond Cost Cutting, McKinsey & Company, 2008 Oracle Proprietary. 7 SOA Spending Continues to Grow
On this backdrop, SOA spending continues to grow and expected to double by 2012. SOA is becoming a requirement in most projects with general acceptance that it’s the best approach to building and integrating business applications. A growing number of companies will adopt SOA—AMR says SOA adoption grew by over 100% in 2007 and that 77% of all companies larger than 1000 employees will use some SOA technology by 2012. Most enterprise application vendors are moving to SOA technology for application development and integration. Enterprise application upgrades will drive additional demand for SOA infrastructure and skills over the next five years. However there are a number of challenges faced by customers in their SOA implementations: The lack of SOA skills is a challenge. Complexity of SOA technologies as the market matures – early SOA products were meant for technical experts, not the average business analyst Oracle Proprietary. Copyright 2006, Oracle Corporation

BPM functions as a catalyst to drive operational excellence and innovation within organizations. It can enable existing solutions to deliver more value. BPM is a structured way of documenting, modeling, analyzing and improving business processes to achieve operational excellence. The BPM lifecycle is iterative After modeling the business BPM enables automation and execution of the improved process. Then key process metrics can be monitored for continuous improvement. Approaches such as Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies require BPM. Business End User Developer Process Administrator Oracle Proprietary. Copyright 2006, Oracle Corporation

12 BPM increases the business value of SOA
BPM provides a great abstraction for building business systems SOA provides the platform that bridges the business processes and operational resources BPM optimizes the use of SOA across core business processes that impact business objectives Front end Applications Biz Processes / Workflows Business Services (“Composite”) Service Orchestration Implementation Services BPM increases the business value of SOA Without understanding process requirements it is difficult to develop meaningful business services with the right level of abstraction and granularity. BPM Puts business in the drivers’ seat and gives non-technical managers hands-on control of their business processes. BPM enabled SOA results in explicit processes that can be readily changed and improved in shorter time cycles. SOA enables BPM SOA is the Underlying technology that makes BPM dream a reality. . 14 The concept of AIA AIA Enterprise Business Objects & Services Layer
Optimize Offer Forecast Demand Capture Order Pick, Pack, Ship Billing Deduction & Settlement AIA Enterprise Business Objects & Services Layer Customer Sales Order Invoice… Siebel CRM E-Business Suite Enterprise Service Bus BPEL Process Manager Oracle Data Integrator SAP or ISV App Custom Apps Composite UI AIA is a complete integration solution for developing flexible, user-centric business processes across your enterprise applications through the use of standardized business services. AIA provides a modern SOA foundation that is built on the industry’s leading middleware suite, using best practices. It enables access to application components through a Business Object and Business Services Layer. It also provides pre-integrated end-to-end business processes that spans multiple applications. To take an example, in a process that starts with Lead Generation and ends with an Order that has to be shipped to a customer, many applications are involved. The process starts in Siebel’s Campaign Management and end up in Oracle EBS Shipping capability. There may be 3rd party, legacy and custom applications for different functions that are also needed in the process. There are multiple data integrations and process integrations required. Although open interfaces and sometimes web service interfaces have been available, developing the integration customer by customer has been expensive and complex. When different applications need to be upgraded, regression testing and managing the logistics and timing becomes very expensive for customers. Oracle AIA addresses this challenge by providing pre-integrated end to end business processes so customers can focus on the process modifications that provide them with a competitive advantage. The Service Oriented Architecture provides them with a flexible path to making those customizations in a way that is resilient to change. Application Integration Architecture (AIA) Business Processes Enterprise Business Objects (EBOs) Service Orchestrations Web Services The key goal of Service Oriented Architecture is to provide loose coupling between services and applications. To that end, AIA provides an abstraction layer using canonical data models and service endpoints that are exposed. How is AIA Delivered Industry Reference Models: Industry Processes and Integrations Process Integration Packs: Pre-built composite business processes across multiple enterprise Applications Foundation Pack: Common Object Models, SOA Architecture, Best practices So let’s talk about the components of AIA… For many companies, it can be a challenge to understand and rationalize business processes that can scale to meet business needs today and over time. AIA removes this challenge by delivering industry best practice reference models. These reference models outline key industry processes and activities that provide a starting point for you to design your process flows. More importantly, these process blueprints are application independent, allowing you to create business processes that can grow and change over time, without worrying about the underlying applications. For customers that want to quickly enable business integration scenarios using industry standards, another component of AIA are the Process Integration Packs. These Process Integration Packs are SOA-based, pre-built integrations between best of breed Oracle apps allow you to quickly implement mission critical processes, like Order to Cash between Siebel CRM and Oracle EBS. These integrations minimize lower level integration work, provide a rapid time to value, and reduce ongoing maintenance costs because of their sustainable nature. In cases where you need to automate a business process but Oracle doesn’t provide a PIP, you can use the AIA Foundation Pack to build your own PIP. The AIA Foundation Pack consists of application independent components such as business objects and services that you can assemble, using Oracle Fusion Middleware, into a complete SOA solution. In addition to these components, the Foundation Pack includes some higher level services such as a business service repository to provide governance and best practices around your SOA project. And finally, AIA is built on Oracle FMW’s SOA Suite. This open standards based framework allows you to build and rebuild functionality between Oracle, third party and custom applications. It doesn’t matter if you’re using Oracle ERP, CRM, third-party and custom applications, or even SAP. AIA can accommodate all. And it includes an extension framework that allows you and partners to build extensions to the core products we define. Oracle is more than an apps/tools vendor. We’re the only ones who can bring apps and technology expertise together and deliver a solution to help customers solve their apps integration challenges for a more flexible infrastructure. “Standardizing standards” - EBS and EBOs are the key ingredient to making customers successful. We’ve done all the hard work to come up with EBS/EBOs that would normally take customers a lot of resources and time to figure out. We work with Standards bodies to make sure our EBS/EBOs are truly standards and have a dedicated team of people focused on delivering more and more EBS/EBOs. As these additional EBS/EBOs come out, customers get for free as part of their standard upgrade support.
