4 However it’s quite difficult… To stay one more minute at patient’s bed to talk to him/her, when you are under danger of cast off, in case of being late from the operation… To be kind to an agressive patient in our 13th working hour… To create appropriate conditions for a calm conversation, when you don’t have any free place in the hospital To achieve the 80 years old patient to understand why it is so important to follow exactly your instruction when taking the pills To achieve the illiterate patient to understand what is the correspondence between using condom and the pain in his penis, because he has guarded – against pregnancy – „he got out in time”… To understand and accept why sy doesn’t want to join a life- saver treatment… Not to snap at older patient when he did not follow our instruction – but understand, accept and help him

5 …but you will become a doctor: IT’ S A SOCIAL STATE BUT AT THE SAME TIME SOCIAL RESPONSABILITY TOO: YOU ARE STUDENTS OR „FUTURE DOCTORS”?” THE PATIENT (ANY PEOPLE NEED FOR HELP) MUST BE THE FIRST IN EVERY TIME AND PLACE DOCTOR IS DOCTOR IN 24 HOURS A DAY YOU HAVE TO PAY ATTENTION FOR DEVELOPMENT OF COMMUNITY, PREVENTION YOUR OWN LOOK, etc. Because you will became INTELLECTUALS…!!! (=THINKING, LOOKING FOR ANSWERS FOR THE PROBLEMS OF THE WORLD…) …AT THE SAME TIME YOU ARE NOT GODS…: YOU HAVE TO CARE ABOUT YOUR OWN DEVELOPMENT

6 Safe prognostication – appropriate affect You will be able to take adequate actions only if you see through and understand the world around you…!

7 Analytic-, holistic, system orientated point of view = Bio-psycho-social approach CONSCIOUS LOOKING BEHIND THE SURFACE LOOKING FOR HIDDEN RELATIONSHIPS, CORRESPONDENCES AND IT’S ANALYSIS

8 Psychology …to look behind the surface, discover and understand the relationships between the world’s symptomes: the complex, dynamic system of individuals & it’s (social) environment Body and soul are never independent!! Neither yours, neither your patient’s: You are real humans, and will treat also with real humans! (with emotions, memory, fears, happyness, sadness, experiences, etc…) „The academic studying of human mental processes and behaviour”

9 THE PERSPECTIVES, THEMES, SUBFIELDS OF PSYCHOLOGY Just like… …marbles…

10 …or dew-drops – on the same blade of grass… MAJOR PERSPECTIVES OF PSYCHOLOGY: Biological- …seeks to specify the neurobiological precesses that underlie behavior and mental processes… Behavioral- …focuses on observable stimuli and responses, and regards nearly all behaviour as a result of conditioning… Cognitive- …is concerned with mental processes such as percieving, remembering, reasoning, deciding, problem-solving… Psychoanalytic- …sais that behavior stems from unconscius processe (meaning beliefs, fears, desires) that a person is unaware of, but nonethless influence behavior. Subjectivist- …contends that human behaviour is a function of the percieved world, not the objective world.

11 …understand the complex world, and use this knowledge in practical way for helping others… MAJOR SUBFIELDS OF PSYCHOLOGY: Biological psychology relationship between biological processes and behavior Cognitive- concerned with internal mental processes (problem-solving, memory, language&thought) Developmental- concerned with factors that shape behavior from birth to old age Social- interest how people percieve their social world, and how their beliefs, emotions, and behavior are influenced by the presence of others Personality- study the thoughts, emotions, that define an individual’s personal style in the world Clinical- apply psychological principles directly to the diagnosis and treatment of emotional and behavioral problems School and educational- work to evaluate learning and emotional problems in school environment Organizational- work for companies in terms of selecting, developing people, job processes and methods MEDICAL PSYCHOLOGY …relation with „clinical”, but as a matter of fact with each ones – for evaluate the complex treatment processes

14 …and as medic would you use an injection, in wich’s positive effect you are not 100% sure…? …and if your boss commands you…?

15 Social psychology For being able to succeed in social interactions (in work place, and also in your private life) For being able to avoid the pitfalls in the social interactions

17 General psychology (sensation&perception, memory, thinking, etc.) For being able to build up consciously and efficiently your medical communication, behaviour For being able to battle more efficiently either with challenges during studying (How to learn more easily the anatomy…?)

20 Psychology of the personality and human development Motivations, emotions, learning processes, etc. For being familiar, closer to the manifestations of interacton of body and soul, of human personality For keep in proper condition your own personality For not to loose your belief in healing!

21 These are necessary for… Explain to oncle Joe that „if you will not take the pills for your eye-probleme, after one month you will not be able even to collect the eggs from your chickens…” In summer time NOT to prescribe suppository, or any medicaments which has to be kept in fridge to that patient who has no fridge at home… Explain to engineer patient why it is impossible to give him a 100% sure prognosis: „because in your job you have to count with a couple dozen coefficients, but in human body the output is depending on thousand and thousand ones…” To calm down the patient before operation – even as medics To achieve the trust of patient… …and their compliance, their cooperation…!! Being really good doctors – to medicate, heal = to really help!!
