1 Mike and Matt are Second Grade Learners!

2 Mike and Matt love learning. Their teacher has asked them to research, or find information, about the state of Texas.

3 Mike and Matt wonder where they could find information about Texas. They see a poster in their classroom that has information about Texas. They decide this would help them.

4 Both boys grab their social studies notebooks. Social Studies Notebook

5 Mike quickly starts drawing in his notebook without taking time to read his teacher’s poster.

6 Matt spends time reading and looking at his teacher’s poster. Then he decides what to add to his notebook. 8-27-08 State of Texas 1 This is my state. I live here.

7 Matt’s Social Studies Notebook contains everything he needs to remember what he learned about Texas. Let’s look at each part of his page and identify what makes his notebook a good example.

10 Matt definitely showed that he is practicing to be a lifelong learner. Now it is your turn. Find your Social Studies Notebooks. Listen carefully as you follow these directions with your teacher.

11 Steps to Setting Up Your Social Studies Notebooks: 1. Create a Title Page. On the first page of your notebook, write “Social Studies Notebook” and your name. Use your neatest handwriting. Social Studies Notebook by Matt

13 Steps to Setting Up Your Social Studies Notebooks: 1. Create a Title Page. 2. Create a Table of Contents. 3. Number the first ten pages. In the bottom corner of each page, write a number starting with 1. Be sure to use the back side of every page. 1

14 Now every time you add a new entry to your notebook, go back to the Table of Contents and add the title of your entry and a page number. This makes it easy to find information. Table of Contents Texas - page 1

15 It’s time to make your first entry. Turn to page one. Your title is “Lifelong Learner Traits.” Write the date and the title now. Lifelong Learner Traits 8-28-08

16 Choose one lifelong learner trait. Write that trait and then illustrate it. When you illustrate, you draw and color a picture to match your writing.
