Presenting E-Learning and Design Concepts EDU651-Instructional Design and Delivery For: EDU697 From: Mary Gatt Remake for Professor Pressey 5/23/13 1

2 Define E-learning “One of the outlets for knowledge-based economy is e-learning, facilitating education using information technology (IT) infrastructure, which plays an important role in today's virtual world breaking distance and time obstacle (Rezaie, Eslami, and Fazlollahtabar, 2012).” Presenting E-Learning and Design Concepts http://www.edweek.org/ew/section/feeds/index.htm

3 Describe Varieties of E-Learning: Stand alone courses Learning games, simulations leading to discoveries through Exploration. Mobile learning student no longer tied to computer Screen-using smart phones, tablet devices, etc. Social learning connections and collaborations are on the read/write web e.g. Blogging, wikis etc. Virtual-classroom courses-reading assignments, presentations and other social media, with homework, utilizing synchronous online Meetings with perhaps Skype etc (Horton 2012).

4 Explain E-Learning Design Try not to teach too much material at a time teaches appropriate for audience Good design shows what student needs to know will not omit objectives that support the learner

5 Explain E-Learning Design Good design does not look for easy way out to teach student will not waste student time, knowing each learners capabilities Good design takes into account all users will take into account many types of learning styles (Horton, 2012)

6 Instructional Design http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZRj1Lg8TsM E-Learning begins by having right design selecting, organizing, specifying, creating activities (Horton, 2012) gives learner frame of reference before using technology

7 Instructional Design http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kzt5dzyy-Q (Idesign) used by educators with goals and objectives. will tell technology needed to purchase or license Instructional design directs development stage, budget, etc Determined by planning design ahead prevents common failures associated with usage.

8 Instructional Design http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9T4WB2zfmps Do not put too much into one session particular attention to each learner’s context level helps prevent common failures associated with usage (Horton, 2012)
