It connects the subject of a sentence with a word that describes or renames the subject. most common linking verb : BE and forms of to BE singularplural Present tense:beare is am Past tense: was were In the following sentences: circle the linking verb; underline the subject and the noun that renames it, or the adjective that describes it; draw an arrow from the subject to the linked noun or adjective.
