2 Four components of Geography Population - The human element Relationships - The people and places Landforms (the physical earth) - Mountains, hills - Plateaus, plains - Elevation Climate - Refers to the usual pattern of weather events that occurs in an area over a long period of time - Is determined by distance from the Equator, by location near large bodies of water and sometimes by positions near mountain ranges

3 Why study Geography? It can explain how Texas acquired its diversity. Location, resources, and climate have made it attractive to people for thousands of years.

4 How do we study Geography? The study of the earth in all its variety: The earth’s land Water Plant and animal life The study of places Relationships between people and their environments
