6 Federal Trade Commission 1914 Monitors American businesses Investigates companies and issues “cease and desist” orders against companies involved in unfair trade practices Progressive response: Clayton Antitrust Act: ban on tying agreements and price discrimination

7 Almost lost majority in congress, started to support reforms again. Keating-Owen Child Labor Act: prohibits children under 14 from working in factories. Adamson Act: 8 hour workday for railroad workers Federal Farm Loan Act: provides farmers with long term loans at low interest rates.
