1 Election of 1912 This election had three major candidates running for the Presidency: (6)William Taft Republican Party (1)/(6)Woodrow Wilson Democrat Party (6)Teddy Roosevelt Progressive or Bull Moose Party Roosevelt was upset at how Taft ran the country after he left office. Roosevelt said he was “fit as a bull moose” for the campaign.

5 Election Results By 1912, 100,000 fewer people had voted for Wilson than had voted for Bryan in 1908. The 1912 election saw Wilson Gain (9)435 electoral votes.

6 Notes Chapter 8 part 3 Underwood Tariff Act After 5 weeks Wilson -(10)appeared before congress It reduced the average tariff on imported goods by 30%. One of the most important provisions was for an income tax. This would open the doors of debate for the 16th Amendment. In 1913 the 16 Amendment passed which was the (11)federal income tax on individuals.

7 The Federal Reserve Act This allowed for banks to keep a portion of their money in a regional bank by (13)creating the federal banking system This would set the interest rates for the entire country and control the flow of currency. Many people say this was the most important piece of legislation in U.S. history.

8 (14)Federal Trade Commission This was set up to monitor American business. and make sure trusts were not forming. The main job of the FTC was to work with business to limit the unfair activities. The Clayton Antitrust Act (15)stopped businesses from charging different prices to different customers. The new Keating-Owen law (16)stopped all workers under the age of 14 Federal Farm Loan act (17)lowered interest for farmers
