Vocabulary Idolatry: worship a thing instead of God.

2 Solomon ruled wisely for years, but then began to break the covenant with God. God told him that the kingdom would not continue if the covenant was not obeyed. Solomon died in 922 BC and his son Rehoboam became king. Rehoboam imposed more taxes and harsh laws. Northern tribes refused to accept Rehoboam as king and broke away and formed their own kingdom.

Encouraged idolatry and appointed false priests Samaria became capital Ahab and Jezebel were evil rulers and did not accept God. 2 southern tribes Rehoboam was king Jerusalem was capital with Temple

Elijah- northern kingdom- called people to have faith in one true God Elisha- anointed and had cloak thrown over him; also called people to have faith in God Amos-northern kingdom- preached against social and religious problems Hosea- (Gomer) preached against being unfaithful

5 Assyria attacks and conquers Israel
Assyria attacks and conquers Israel. People of Israel are killed or made slaves. “lost tribes” never again have power.
