1 10 Easy steps to building your computer By Chris Holzworth & Michael Barnett

2 Introduction This tutorial will guide you on how to build your very own computer. We’ll take you through the process of installing your ram, processor, add-on cards, hard drives, etc. Also included is three phases of testing.

4 Parts Checklist This is the checklist for the parts required to build your computer Case Motherboard CPU and Heatsink RAM Video Card Hard Drive Floppy disk drive CD Rom drive Sound Card

5 Step One Installing your motherboard Start of by removing the cover for your case. Align your motherboard to the screw gaps in the casing, inserting the bronze motherboard mounts into each of the required screw holes. Gently put the motherboard onto the bronze mounts and screw in. Connect the required cables for your case and motherboard, consulting the manual to see where each cable goes.

6 Step Two Installing your CPU and Heatsink Raise the CPU socket lever and gently lower the CPU, making sure that every pin goes in straight and correctly. Attach the heatsink as per manufacturers instructions.

7 Step Three Installing the RAM Being sure to align the notching up correctly, insert the ram straight down into the socket, gently applying even force at each end until the end clasps lock into place.

8 Step Four Installing the video card Align the card up with the slot and push it in firmly. Secure the card with a screw.

9 Step Five Testing Phase 1 Now the basic components are installed, its time to test. Attach the power cable to the power supply and turn the computer on. If it turns on then remove the power and continue installation. If it does not turn on, consult the manual for possible faults.

10 Step Six Installing your hard drive Insert the hard drive into the drive bay and secure with screws. Attach the IDE Ribbon cable to the drives connector and to the motherboard. Attach the power cable from the powersupply

11 Step Seven Installing the Floppy Disk Drive Insert the floppy drive in the floppy drive bay and secure with screws. Attach the floppy drive cable to the drive and the motherboard. Attach the power cable from the powersupply

12 Step Eight Installing the CD Rom drive. Insert the CD Rom drive in the CD Rom drive bay and secure with screws. Attach an IDE Ribbon cable to the drive and to the motherboard. Attach the power cable to the drive.

13 Step Nine Installing sound card Insert the sound card into its slot and press in firmly. Attach with a screw.

14 Step Ten Finishing Up Make sure everything is attached and plugged in firmly. Replace the cover of the case and screw in.
