4. Course Description Sociology 100 introduces students to the issue of how to explain human social behavior, focusing on the scientific method. 5

Specifics Course Goals: 6 1.Learn the difference between scientific and non scientific models of human behavior. 2.Understand the sociological perspective and basic concepts of sociology. 3.Apply a sociological point of view to every day life (personal experiences and what is seen in the media). 4.Use several of the methods of sociology for collecting and analyzing social data. 5.Appreciate the sociological classics (Durkheim, Marx, Weber, etc.) as well as contemporary contributions to sociology to expand our understanding of human society and behavior. 6.Develop some sense of history and uses of the discipline of sociology.

The San Francisco Chronicle or The Los Angeles Times & 60 minutes CBS 7:00 Sunday Soc. 100 class workbook available at Copy network NPR Morning Edition (5:00-9:00) or All things Considered (4:00-7:00) 89.1 FM, if possible listen for 1 hour a day.
