3. Course readings Week 1INFO 7313  There is no text for this course  If you really wanted one, this is good but not worth $120: Lorenzi & Riley. Managing Technological Change: Organizational Aspects of Health Informatics, 2nd ed. Springer, 2004 (reprinted 2010)  The course readings are a herd of papers (32, to be exact) from 1999 to the present  These papers are the basis for understanding most of each week’s material

4. Course structure Week 1INFO 7314  Six teams will summarize the week’s readings in Team Presentations, as discussed in the syllabus and assignment  There will be a quiz at the start of week 4, focusing on the first three weeks of material  A workflow diagram is due at the start of week 5  The rest of the course evaluation is based on your participation in the weekly discussions, and a case study final project

Discussion participation Week 1INFO 7315  The syllabus has guidance on discussion participation  I’m looking for your perspectives on the material  Have you had similar or contrasting experiences? Tell us!  Are there parts of the readings that don’t make sense to you? Ask for clarification!  Do you think an author is wrong or misleading? Explain why!  The worst thing you can do is … nothing. We can’t read your mind (and it would be really rude to do so even if we could), so please share your insights.  I’m guessing we’re coming from a wide range of perspectives, so the discussions should be lively!

My background Week 1INFO 7316  As you’ll note from my web site, I teach primarily IT and IS (information systems) courses, based on my 18 years in industry doing systems analysis, design, development, and maintenance for defense and aviation organizationsmy web site  My eclectic healthcare-related background includes  Doctorate in biomedical engineering  Two years as a student midwife (!)  Some 400 hours of massage therapy training  Basic EMT certification  Over 20 years as volunteer in emergency preparedness (mass casualty triage, incident command, etc.)
