To Do List: Look at the role of a teamplayer. Worksheet to complete for Chapter 2. Homework: Study for test – Chapter 1.

Being on a team? A Team functions best when strengths and weaknesses are balanced. Not everyone has a equal say. Everyone on the team has a supervisor and that supervisor has the final say.

Being on a team? Members work together and share ideas to get the final product completed. Members ask for help from the project leaders, specialist, creative director, and internal producer when needed.

Team is: composed of members with different skills. There are: –designers –programmers –artist –sound designers –quality assurance/testers.

Creative Director Sets the vision and direction the team will take in completing the game. Selects the personnel. Assigns jobs roles for each person. Communicates between the company management and design team.

Project Manager Responsible for coordinating all of the lead managers. Ensures the project components are on task and well managed. Only manages a single project at a time. Sets the production schedule. Tracks that all jobs are completed on time and buget.

Lead Designer Acts as the day-to-day leader. Reports to the Creative director. Needs special skills in leadership, game design, and artistic design. Responsible for overall function of: –Design team –Project completion –Budgeting –Fnal build decisions –Flow from level to level in the game

Game Designer Reports to lead designer and lead programmers. Establishes the rules of the game. Finalizes the design documents. Ensure the game will work according to the vision.

Level Designer Responsible for creating: – The game world –Functions for a single level In a multi-level game: –Several level disigners are needed –They report to the game designer.

Design Documents Are needed to make sure that the game is built correctly. They record all decisions. Designers and managers can look at these documents to see the final decisions on concept, character, game world, art, programming, and platform.

User Interface Design Responsible for creating controls that the player uses to move and interact with the game. Major role is to help the player connect to and become immersed in the game world. Works closely with the creative director and lead director.

Game Writer Are the dramatic writers for the team. Responsible for developing character depth and interaction. Add dialogue, make up the story, develop the history for the characters. Reports to lead designer. He keeps the role of characters flow from start to finish.

Art Designer/Lead Artist Creates the visual elements fo the game. Develops 2D Sprites or 3D Models. Reports to lead designer or creative director Works on several projects at the same time.

Audio Engineer Creates all of the sounds that add depth to the game. Works on several projects at the same time. Sets the sounds to match the vision and mood of the game.

Quality Assurance/Tester Is the person that actually gets paid to play video games. Game testers will play all the levels over and over again to test every part of the game for proper operations. This is an entry level job in the game design stuio. Requires a very good game player with some programming knowledge.
