2 Today’s Agenda We are beginning our unit on isolation Group discussion on what isolation is, and what forms it takes. Begin our class reading of Life of Pi Ticket out the door, you will hand me your response journals on your way out. REMEMBER! No writing, no credit!

4 Questions Group 1: What do you think isolation is; what does it mean? Group 2: What are some common themes of isolation, and how are they shown? Provide examples from something you have read, seen, or experienced. Group 3: Are there any signs of isolation in today’s society? Group 4: What makes us connected, and not isolated? 8 Life of Pi Story about a young teenager who becomes stranded in the Pacific ocean with only a Tiger as a companion. Pull out your copy and read along. If called upon read until new student is called. If you were stranded on a life boat by yourself, with one week of supplies for six people, what would you do to stay busy, and how would you survive? Write your answer down in your journal.

9 Wrap Up Don’t forget to hand me your journals as you leave the room, no journal, no participation points for today, remember those points add up! Prepare for tomorrow when we work in the computer lab on our research of actual castaways. You can start researching tonight. Read to page 96 in Life of Pi by Friday.
