3 Course Assessment at Advanced Higher
Course Assessment at AH assesses Added Value Course at AH is graded A – D, as at present Controlled Assessment of setting, conducting and marking For AH Graphic Communication there are 2 Components: a Project (60%) a Question paper (40%) No dual running at Advanced Higher in session (then give details for your subject)

4 AH Graphic Communication – Question Paper
80 marks (40% of award) 2 hours sampling across all course content application of knowledge and understanding drawing from technical graphics and commercial and visual media graphic contexts equally

5 AH Graphic Communication – Question Paper
Two sections section 1: 50 marks – limited response type questions covering both Units section 2: 30 marks – 2 longer structured questions – one each of technical graphics and CVMG contexts

6 Workshop 2: question paper
Using the materials provided, in small groups of 2-3, discuss: Identify subject-specific topics for discussion Using the materials provided, in small groups, discuss: how questions relate to, and integrate aspects of the mandatory content for the Course (CAS) how question approaches progress from Higher the depth of answers required as indicated in MIs existing materials which can still be used to support learning and teaching – any new materials required

7 AH Graphic Communication - Project
What it does: Assesses the practical application of skills and knowledge from across the Course 120 marks (60% of award) Documents needed: GAI (general assessment information) Project Assessment Task, with candidate guide The project will be: Carried out under supervised conditions Internally marked (subject to verification)

8 AH Graphic Communication - Project
Area of project Marks available Analysis of the graphic brief and initial research 10 Producing a graphic specification Project planning Graphic planning and production 60 Carrying out and using research Using preliminary graphic techniques to communicate ideas Producing a range of graphic ideas or concepts 20 Producing a graphic solution Planning a client presentation Producing a client presentation Evaluation

9 Carrying out and using research
Proposal and outline Carrying out and using research Preliminary graphic techniques Graphic ideas or concepts Produce graphic solution(s) Graphic planning and production Discussion, feedback and approval Analysis and initial research Evaluation Graphic specification Project planning Produce client presentation Plan client presentation

10 AH Graphic Communication - Project
GAI (general assessment information) overview suggested graphic contexts assessment conditions giving support and guidance evidence to be gathered marking instructions

11 AH Graphic Communication - Project
Project Assessment Task overview marking instructions (same as GAI) assessment record Appendix 1: instructions and guidance for candidates

12 AH Graphic Communication - Project
Project Assessment Task: Appendix 1 guidance on recording progress stage-by-stage advice and guidance assessment requirements for each aspect additional guidance on research ethics list of possible project contexts

13 AH Graphic Communication - Project
Initial stages pp.30-42 overview of project guidance on recording progress guidance on choosing a suitable problem project proposal and outline plan analysis of a graphic brief and initial research producing a graphic specification project planning

14 AH Graphic Communication
Choosing a suitable project

15 AH Graphic Communication Project - getting started
Producing a project proposal and an outline of how time might be allocated Getting assessor approval This establishes that the candidate’s proposal for their project is appropriate and feasible

16 AH Graphic Communication Project
Workshop activities – reference documents

17 Workshop 3a: project initial stages
Using the materials provided, in small groups, discuss: the list of possible contexts – can you provide any others? what the candidate must record as they progress how much advice and guidance is acceptable (GAI p5) the requirements of evidence for: analysis and initial research the graphic specification project planning Using the materials provided, in small groups of 2-3, discuss: Identify subject-specific topics for discussion

18 AH Graphic Communication – Project
Graphic planning and production (PAT)pp.43-48 1. carrying out and using ongoing research 2. using preliminary graphic techniques to communicate ideas 3. producing a range of ideas or concepts 4. producing a graphic solution

19 Workshop 3b: graphic planning and production
Using the materials provided, in small groups of 2-3, discuss: Identify subject-specific topics for discussion Using the materials provided, in small groups, discuss: what evidence is required for each element – what would this look like? what the candidate must record as they progress how much advice and guidance is acceptable (GAI p5) evidence required – technical and/or CVMG options the marks awarded for these different elements

20 AH Graphic Communication – Project
Planning and producing a client presentation (PAT pp.49-51) planning a presentation producing a client presentation

21 Workshop 3c: client presentation
Using the materials provided, in small groups, discuss: the purpose of the presentation the level of presentation planning detail required the formats of evidence for planning the requirements for the final client presentation how much advice and guidance is acceptable (GAI p5) Using the materials provided, in small groups of 2-3, discuss: Identify subject-specific topics for discussion

22 AH Graphic Communication – Project
Evaluation of solution and process (PATpp.51-52) Describing and explaining the production processes of the solution Impacts of decision making

23 Workshop 3d: evaluation
Using the materials provided, in small groups, discuss: the purpose of the evaluation the key aspects of the evaluation the use of a ‘record of progress’ or reflective commentaries in support of the evaluation how much advice and guidance is acceptable (GAI p5) Using the materials provided, in small groups of 2-3, discuss: Identify subject-specific topics for discussion
