2 Some interesting information about our brain. Newborn Child’s Brain growth. In the first year the brain of a newborn child grows about three times its size. Emotions. The ability of emotions such as happiness, fear, shyness etc. is developed naturally from the birth time. Then the environment and growth patterns (nurture) plays the role to give a specific direction to these emotions. Speed. The processing speed of the information in the brain varies from 0.5 meters/sec to 120 meters/sec. (about 268 miles/hr). Memory can be defined as the capacity of the brain to retain and retrieve the information, events and impressions and recognizing past experiences etc.

3 Types of Memory! How it works to store information? Five types of memory: working memory, semantic memory, episodic memory, procedural memory, and perceptual memory. Working of our memory is divided in three stages. Encoding: When there is a need of storing or remembering any information, our brain develops a code of this information. It is to keep the record of this information or event. Storage: The ability to retain and store information effectively. Repeating or Rehearsal is the best thing to help in remembering or storing the information. Retrieval: It is the ability to recall or retrieve the information from memory when needed. A brilliant and powerful brain after storing the information is able to retrieve the information successfully. If the information is stored in the brain successfully, it must be retrieved. Information successfully stored can be retrieved by cues and reminders easily.

4 How our critical thinking skills are affected by the information in our long term memory? Our critical thinking is affected in 2 ways by the Information stored into our long-term memory. Our memory about previous critical thinking experiences will guide and make us to use the same process in order to get the same or even improved outcomes by using same process more than one times. Getting knowledge of the processes and skills which we can use but we are not able to use properly and can take time to memorize. (in the reference of previous slide).

5 When my ability to learn is affected by my memory: Negative: My ability to present on the information I have in my brain is generally affected when I am nervous. It is important to repeat and rehearsal to control this phenomenon. Rehearsal is also important to retain the information and gain the required confidence to present to management. Positive: The surroundings and environment which is helpful in promoting learning, peoples are helping each other, people are busy in learning will make us all more excellent learner and productive.
