1 Planetary Travel Brochure The year is 2100. There have been many amazing and interesting discoveries this past century. Earthlings have the ability to travel faster than the speed of sound in vehicles that are resistant to temperature and pressure. Nuclear fuel propels these vehicles. Earthlings now want to attract organisms from other planets to travel to our solar system. You are going to develop a travel brochure to promote your favorite planet (choose any planet except Earth). Use FACTS plus your ideas to convince people to include your tour in their vacation plans. PLEASE look up some travel brochures on the internet so you have an idea what it entails. The brochure should be 4 sections. See the example below on how to fold. YOU SHOULD USE A PIECE OF PAPER THAT IS MUCH LARGER THAN NORMAL PAPER. You can use an 11x17 or larger. If you do not have paper this large, YOU CAN ASK MRS. LEIKER FOR SOME!! There should be 8 total sections (front and back). You MUST use color and make the brochure somewhat engaging (this is worth 10 bonus points after all!) I’ve put empty boxes next to each of the criteria. Check mark them so you know you have everything! Section 1 (Cover) ☐ Name of your planet, your name, and a drawing of your planet. Section 2 ☐ Where is your planet located (for example, Earth is the third planet from the Sun)? ☐ How far is your planet from the Sun? ☐ How long does it take your planet to orbit the Sun? (This is one year on Earth.) Is its orbit unusual? ☐ How long does it take your planet to rotate on its own axis? (This is one day on Earth.) ☐ Describe what does your planet looks like. Are there any special things on your planet?

2 Section 3 ☐ How big is your planet? How does it rate in terms of the other planets in terms of size (is it the biggest, the smallest)? ☐ If there are moons orbiting your planet, if so, describe key moons. ☐ If there are rings orbiting your planet, describe the rings. Describe when and how they were discovered. Section 4 ☐ What type of planet is it (is it rocky or a gas planet)? ☐ What is the force of gravity at the surface your planet? (For example, what would a 100-pound person weigh on your planet)? ☐ What is the composition of the atmosphere of your planet? Is it a thick or a thin atmosphere? ☐ What is the temperature on your planet? How does this compare to the temperature on Earth? Section 5 Discovery of your Planet. The planets that are not visible using the naked eye were discovered after the invention of the telescope. ☐ Tell when your planet was discovered and by whom. ☐ Is there anything interesting about the discovery of your planet? Section 6 ☐ How would a Human Being live on your planet? On your planet, would a person choke in the atmosphere? Would the gravity squash the person? Would they float with ease, freeze, burn up, or something else? Be CREATIVE in how you describe this, as it must be accurate. Section 7 Something Special. ☐ Is there anything special about your planet? This can often be the best part of this brochure, taking you off on interesting topics. For example, are there long storms on your planet? Are there giant volcanoes? Does your planet have a very titled axis (giving it extreme seasons)? Have spacecraft visited your planet? If so, what have they discovered? Is your planet in an orbit with another solar body? BE CREATIVE. Section 8 ☐ List 5 unique facts about your planet that haven’t already been mentioned. ☐ What fun activity can someone do on your planet? This can be MADE UP but based on things that are on the planet or happening on the planet. BE CREATIVE and ENGAGING in describing your activity as you want someone to want to visit!
