Making Amends for Slavery As the Union Soldiers moved through the South they began freeing the still enslaved African Americans With slavery still in the Border States Lincoln would try to pass the 13 th Amendment to end slavery One Year later the Amendment was Passed and slavery was banned in the United States

The Death of Lincoln Lincoln would never see the end of slavery as he would be killed by John Wilkes Booth at Ford’s Theater in Washington DC as William Seward and the Andrew Johnson were also Targets Booth would be Found and Killed by Union Troops after Lincoln’s Death leaving people in Mourning for the president The Union would have to rebuild the nation without the leadership of Abraham Lincoln
