1 Community Planning Event for North and West 1 Output from workshop held on Tuesday 9 th February 2010 at John Clare Primary School, Helpston

2 Venue and attendees Venue John Clare Primary School, Helpston 21 participants, 4 facilitators Most key partners were represented at the workshop

3 The facilitators introduced the context and the plan for the 2 ½ hour workshop Julie Rivett, Neighbourhoods & Empowerment Manager, explained the background to the event, the introduction of Neighbourhood Management and the role of the Neighbourhood Councils. The audience were assured that all previous consultation had been compiled together to produce the information for the day’s event. The workshop was the first of seven events to be carried out in different parts of Peterborough but would not be the only opportunity to take part in the Community Action Planning process.

4 Some of you thought that partnership working was currently fairly effective, while others felt there was plenty of room for improvement There was a wide range of opinion on how effective partnership working was at present. Mean score = 7 / 10 Range = Between 0 and 8 0 = very ineffective 10 = Very Effective

5 The issues which occurred most frequently were: -Roads, Potholes, footpaths, gritting -Rubbish/litter/bins -Poor bus service Other issues you selected as high priority were: -Better landscaping -Parking/verge parking -Street lighting/repair enhance -Completion of cycleway Workshop 1 Environment, you selected short term, medium term and long term goals and began to list in order of importance

6 Workshop 1 Growth, you selected short term, medium term and long term goals and began to list in order of importance The issues which occurred most frequently were: - Traffic issues/calming/road signs - More affordable housing - No training/ employment in village Other issues you selected as high priority were: - Speeding enforcement - Lorry traffic - Level crossing at Helpston/ Peakirk - More access to volunteering - Improve infrastructure/drains /sewage

7 Workshop 1 Safer & Stronger, you selected short term, medium term and long term goals and began to list in order of importance The issues which occurred most frequently were: - Speeding - Lack of Visible Police Other issues you selected as high priority were: - Lack of communication - Street Lighting - Fly tipping - Youth facilities - Concern re: isolation

8 Workshop 1 Open/Accessible Services, you selected short term, medium term and long term goals and began to list in order of importance The issues which occurred most frequently were: - Young peoples provision - Better services for elderly - Better communication - More shops and sustaining - More sports facilities Other issues you selected as high priority were: - Children's play facilities - More funding opportunities - Training for elderly - Better local community facilities

9 We shared with you some facts we know about your neighbourhood The general feeling appeared to agree with most facts. Some questions were raised with regard to the actual population the figures were based on. It was acknowledged that more work is required to formulate meaningful comparable data.

10 We asked you, What does effective partnership working look like at Neighbourhood level? The six key headings were agreed as: - Effective Communication - Accountability - Resources - Decision making at right level -Efficiency -Transparency - Being realistic - Enthusiasm - Shared outcomes

11 You then worked in your groups to begin identifying actions to be taken to address the priorities and partners who should be involved

15 -The facilitation team would like to thank all of you for your time and hard work. Your input has been invaluable and gave us a really good insight into the key barriers, possible improvements and existing best practice around partnership working at neighbourhood level. -We hope that you found the workshop useful too, both as a way of sharing ideas with front line colleagues and community representatives. If you have any further comments on any aspect of partnership working in Peterborough, please do not hesitate to contact the neighbourhood management team. -The ideas and assessments you generated will form draft of the community Action plan for North and West 1. -Further events are planned to build on the work you have begun. -Please use the output in any way that will help you to drive through any improvements to the way your organisation works with other partners.
