OPUS Projects (beta) status and plans Improved solutions for simultaneous or repeated observations harvest data from multiple observers share upload & processing tasks customize your processing using PAGES simple data quality analysis improve survey accuracy constrain to local networks publishing support (limited)

Static: OPUS determines your position with a differential GPS static solution, using hours of data. This process is repeated 4x from other CORS. baseline 1 baseline 3 baseline 4 baseline 2 baseline 5

OPUS-projects : first, run OPUS to harvest all project data OPUS automatically forms sessions from simultaneously observed marks, enabling multi-baseline processing and adjustment of redundant observations.

Do we really need another OPUS flavor? The practical answer is probably yes. The NGS, its partners and stakeholders have a history of projects whose specifications can’t be entirely supported by OPUS. The academic answer is probably yes. As good as OPUS does, and that is very good indeed, sacrificing simplicity for flexibility can improve results. 2013-08-14OPUS Projects9

What’s all that really mean for me? OPUS solutions= pretty good, but each treated as independent and assumes “perfect” CORS. Sessions= simultaneously-observed marks processed together in sessions increases consistency. Adjustments= interlinking sessions through network adjustments increases accuracy. 2013-08-14OPUS Projects10

How much better? Describe statistical variance of – original OPUS solutions – vs session solutions – vs final adjusted positions aka, how many cm can Projects buy me, on average?

Are There Any Other Advantages? Faster, simpler setup – A project’s data are consolidated in on-line storage. – Initial data quality assessments provided on upload. – The data are organized automatically. Faster, simpler work flow – Project specific preferences and the on-line GUI simplifies running PAGES. – Software and models are always up-to-date. – The quality of the processing results is visually indicated in maps, plots and tables. – Many useful files are created automatically. 2013-08-14OPUS Projects12

Limitations? Internet is required. Training is required for project managers. OPUS Static data restrictions apply. Dual-frequency static, 2 - 48 hours duration Project size. 1 – 100 marks per session < a few hundred data files total 2013-08-14OPUS Projects13

OPUS Projects14 OPUS Projects Training Because of its increased complexity, training is required to be an OPUS Projects manager. These workshops are usually two day in length and small so that there is ample time for one-on-one interaction with the instructor. Check the NGS training center schedule for upcoming workshops run by NGS. 2013-08-14
