3 Removing Patient Lock NHS e-Referral Service uses record locking to protect the confidentiality of a patient's appointment requests. Sometimes patients inadvertently “lock” their referral by entering the wrong password multiple times, or closing the browser midway through the booking process. As a security measure, this lock remains in place for at least 30 minutes. After 30 minutes of inactivity the lock is removed but this is not always obvious to patients. Historically, users with the BMS Admin role can unlock affected referrals. In NHS e-Referral Service patients will also be able to ask someone at their GP/referring practice to do this. BMS Admin – New Back to list of changes Benefit : The Appointments Line in particular should see a reduction in the number of patients contacting them for this reason.

4 BMS Admin – Improvement Rebooking Appointments BMS Admin role users should be aware of the following change made in the Patient Web Application (PWA): Historically, if a UBRN has been booked, or deferred to a service, it is not possible for the patient to change to another service using the PWA. In NHS e-Referral Service, the full shortlist of services the patient is referred to will always be available to patients. Patients will be able to change their booking to another service on their shortlist if required, via the PWA. Benefit: TAL should see a significant reduction in the number of patients requesting them to carry out the above action. Back to list of changes
