1 Gimnazjum nr 1 in Tarnobrzeg

2 On 23th April our school celebrated the World Book Day. On this occasion, we organised a performance entitled „Life written as a poem”. Students recited poems by the most famous Polish poets. It was a good opportunity for them to learn and listen to the greatest works of Polish poetry.

3  On 25th March there was a reading contest, whose winner was announced on the World Book Day. Students who took part in it had to read a few short stories by Polish writers. Then, they were checked on the knowledge of the stories, the authors’ lives and work and they wrote a review of one of the stories. The winner was Iga Chmielewska, whose knowledge, writing and reading skills were appeared to be incomparably better that any other contestant’s.

4  The school librarians also prepared an „exhibition” of the great literary works by Polish authors. Students were able to get to know and talk about the most important Polish literary figures and their works of art.

5  The World Book Day was also a perfect opportunity to present the legends prepered for the Comenius Project and the pictures made by our students. The legends were shown as a powerpoint presentation and the pictures were put as another exhibition

6  Stanisław Jachowicz is the patron of our school. He was an outstanding fairy tale writer and he lived in Tarnobrzeg. These are the reasons why he could not be ingored on the World Book Day. His life and work were presented in the form of a bulletin in one of the school corridors.

7  Having in mind our European cooperation and the fact that „The book (is)- your best friend” we made an”English version” corner for literature lovers. Kids could see a sample of books written in English and check if they are able to read and understand such versions of novels.

9  To arouse teenagers’ apetite for reading and to prove that young people do like books, we put some quotes by the students who were asked why they read books. The advantages mentioned in the quotes, as we hope, will make pupils more willing to reach for literature as a form of spending their free time…
