3  Psychology is a science specifically the science of behavior and mental process.  Science – Psychologists use the scientific process.  Behavior and Mental Process – the incredible large range of topics that they study.

4  Wilhelm Wundt is often called the father of psychology  Born in 1879 he opened a laboratory for experiments.  His student E.B. Titchener introduced structuralism a theory that analyzed the basic elements of thoughts and sensations to determine the structure of conscious experience.

5  Using page 4 who is Wilhelm Wundt and what was his major contribution to Psychology?

6  Take a look at pg. 7 in your book.  Pick one of the famous psychologists.  Answer the following questions:  Who are they?  When and where were they born?  What did they contribute to psychology?  Why are they so important?  How did their research help psychology?

7  Worth 10 marks.  Remember don’t plagiarize.  Always quote your sources.  Due:

8  For several of the Psychologists that you just read answer the following questions: 1. What type of school did these people receive? 2. What interests outside of psychology did they pursue? 3. What interesting facts help make these people more real to you?

11  Read pages 9 – 10  List and describe the 6 major perspectives in psychology today

12  Divide into 6 groups.  Each group assigned a perspective  Two behavaviours – 1. why students fight with their parents.  2. Why students don’t study for tests.  Discuss, write down why both these behaviours occure from your assigned perspective.  Present.

13  Identify three new areas of interest that psychologists are exploring today  Turn to your partner  1. is behaivour determined more by genes or environment?  2. How much of your personality is determined by your genes? By your environment? Explain.

19  Psychologists study behaviour that can be observed and measured and mental processes that must be studied indirectly or through biological techniques like brain imaging. Psychologists have come to understand that behaviour and mental processes are different yet related, so each must be studied separately and in the context of each other.
