10. Pacific Campaign – Battle of Iwo Jima Japanese fought to the death. Island encompasses 8 square miles. 24,000+ American Casualties, 6,800 deaths. Only 212 Japanese taken prisoner out of 22,000.

11. Pacific Campaign – Battle of Okinawa Japanese ordered to hold island at any cost Kamikaze – suicide pilots – used a lot American’s: 7,300+ died, 32,000+ wounded. Japanese: 107,000 died, 7,400 prisoner
