The Main question: What does the energy efficient neighbourhood of the future look like? Sub question 2: How do we change people’s behaviour? Sub question 3: How do we motivate young people towards changing their attitudes? Sub questions 1: What kind of measures can we take to make our homes more sustainable? Sub question 4: What do the people think of our ideas?

What kind of measures can you take to make your house more sustainable? Saving Energy: LED lights Don’t pre-heat Turn off your electronics and lights when not used Hang clothes out to dry Use a lower setting for your washing machine Saving water: Shower instead of taking a bath Turn off the tap when not in use Other ways to help environment: Eat better quality meat Don’t use plastic grocery bags

Why sustainable houses?  You save money.  You get the satisfaction of knowing your house is green.  You get a more modern-looking house.  You get a better quality house and life  It brings the neighbourhood together.

How do you change people’s behaviour? The community Energy communities  Help from the government  More information and examples from already existing projects.  A green city is more attractive

How do you change people’s behaviour? The costs  LED lights: €11 per room  Recycling rainwater: €4000 for 4 persons  Double glazed glass: €500 per glass.  Vegetable garden: €100 per year  Share a car: €30 once and then € 0,15 per Kilometre.

How do you motivate young people towards changing their attitudes?  Information at school  Make the school sustainable  Do fundraisers in schools  A game about the environment  An idea: Bicycle cellphone charger: €25

Yellow bike project It’s a bike sharing project, we would like to introduce to Haarlem Germany:  €0,08 per minute  €9 per day.  €60 per week. USA:  $40 a year.  $5 per day.  $30 a month. Netherlands: it’s called white bikes and you only have them in Amsterdam.  Probably: €0,50 per 10 minutes

What do the people think of our ideas? We did interviews about sustainability Some already are sustainable  Short showers  Going by bike  Sustainable houses Many want to become more sustainable but  It considered too expensive  People have to move out for the renovation

What does the energy efficient neighbourhood of the future look like?  There will be events to advise the community about how to be sustainable.  Most people will be travelling by bike, using public transportation or the ‘To Go Car’  They will try to save energy by making their houses more sustainable using the previous methods (insulation, double glazing glass, windmills)  Everyone will separate their garbage – e.g. plastics, glass  Chargers for the electric cars will be everywhere

Conclusion: How are we going to introduce sustainablity in Haarlem?  We have to organise public events to inform people and make them more aware of sustainability  Introduce electric buses  Promote locals products so there will be less CO 2 emission because of reduced transport

Solution to convince the community to become sustainable  Show them the pro’s of sustainability like saved money from the enery bill  Inform them about the possibilities of sustainability  Try to make sustainability into a hot topic

What have we done  Day 1 – Introduction to the assignment. Brainstorming.  Day 2 - Excursion to Haarlem. ABC Architecturaal centre to look at architecture. Looking at Engelandlaan apartment for ideas on sustainable houses.

What we have done  Day 3 – Excursion to Amsterdam. Looked at Nemo museum to look at loads of science things especially the energy saving ideas that there were.  Day 4 – Preparing the presentation for the next day.
