4 PGCE Secondary Online Registration You should already have brought in: – Original and Copy of your degree certificate (ref. 5 PGCE Secondary The Learning Hub If you are having difficulties passing your Professional Skills Tests, the Leeds Trinity Learning Hub can provide one-to-one support (for free). The Learning Hub also offers GCSE Equivalency tests for successful applicants who have not got GCSE English and/or Mathematics (£50 per test; £100 for tuition). 6 PGCE Secondary Fees and Loans The PGCE course costs £9k. UK and EU trainees are eligible for a student loan to cover all of the fee. All UK and EU trainees are also eligible for a student loan to cover ‘maintenance’ of up to £5740 You may also be eligible for a maintenance grant of up to £3387 You repay student loans at 9% of the amount you earn over £21,000. E.g. if you earn £25,000 you will repay £30 a month The starting salary for a teacher is currently £22,023

10 PGCE Secondary The Leeds Trinity PGCE Secondary A Professional Level (Level 6) course, designed to enable you to meet and exceed the Teachers’ Standards and so gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) A Post-Graduate (Level 7) course, allowing you to gain 60 Masters level credits during the programme

12 PGCE Secondary Course Structure Not just “In at the Deep End”: – Structured and Staged Training – Professional Studies (PS) and Subject Application (SA) – Personalised to your needs and rate of progress – Individual support by university and school tutors Three stages, each of 12 weeks: – Stage 1: Centre- and School-Based Training to ensure you have the knowledge and understanding you need to be an effective teacher – Stage 2: School-Based Training to help you get to grips with the basics – Stage 3: School-Based Training to verify your competence in a complementary school

19 PGCE Secondary Stages 2 and 3 Structured training and support – not just “in at the deep end” Timetable initially 30%, then averaging 60% Working as a teacher with opportunity to: – Plan, teach and assess your own subject to KS3, KS4 and KS5 and across the ability range – Work within a team, and with teaching assistants – Be a pastoral tutor – Support whole-school ethos and activities – Gain knowledge of KS2/3 and KS4/5 liaison/transfer

20 PGCE Secondary Stages 2 and 3 Structured training and support – not just “in at the deep end” Trainee and teachers working together as professionals 3 hours training per week: – 1 hour with a school-based subject tutor – 1 hour Professional Studies organised by a senior teacher – 1 hour of feedback etc. Weekly review of progress against targets Time at the end of each stage to critically reflect on progress, set targets for the next stage and engage with relevant research that will help you meet these targets
