5 Meet Cynthia D’Amour and her blog for association leaders Cynthia D'Amour on Leadership and Life Cynthia D'Amour on Leadership and Life Have a Heart Posted: 05 Mar 2009 07:48 PM PST Have a Heart Now go sit down. A few weeks ago I attended a chapter meeting. One of the meeting goals was to build community in their chapter. A break in the middle of their two-hour meeting gave members time to mingle. The arrangements team also got creative with seating arrangements. Valentine’s Day was just a few days away. When members signed in, they were asked to take a heart. A conversation candy heart that is. In the meeting room, tables had heart-shaped cut-outs as centerpieces. Each heart had one of the conversation sayings on it. From “Be Mine” to “Yum Yum.” Members with the same candy sat at the table with the matching saying. The theme added some fun to the meeting. It felt sort of like a party. People enjoyed eating the chocolate hearts also on the tables. It was an inexpensive way to make a major voting meeting less dull. This group understood they had to standout to compete for members’ time. A meeting was not enough. Members wanted a total experience. And a chance to connect with each other. It was no surprise the room was packed with members! Makes me think of chapter leaders…how do transform typical meetings into experiences your members enjoy?
