5  Special Education Technician  MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  High School diploma/GED and a passing score on the San Diego City Schools Classroom Assistant  Proficiency Exam (CAPE) or an Associate’s degree (or higher) or 48 or more eligible units of  coursework at a recognized college or university. One year of related or equivalent classroom assistance  or childcare experience is required. A related degree may be substituted for the experience requirement.  Completion of post high school courses in Early Childhood Development, Elementary Education, or  Special Education is desirable.

8  Dear Mr. Smith,  I am interested in applying for a Special Education Technician position, on the elementary level, in the San Diego Unified School District. As a 2012 graduate of Patrick Henry High School, I have volunteer teaching experience on the third and sixth grade level, in Elementary Schools, through my ROP class at Henry High School.  At the present time I am helping in a classroom of “at risk” 3 rd grade students. This position enables me to provide these students with a “head start” in mastering basic skills. I am challenged to be creative, nurturing and most of all, patient.  In my junior year at Henry High, a passion for, and knowledge of animals created an opportunity for me to volunteer at the local Humane Society. This position allowed me to help deliver a lesson in caring for animals for many 5 th grade classrooms in your school district. I helped coordinate field trips and align lessons with classroom instruction.  It is my goal to combine my range of experience with my ability to be a compassionate, enthusiastic, intelligent tutor who will make a positive contribution to your school district.
