4. MIST is for high school students who want to use creativity, competition, and collaboration to explore the infinite oceans and seas of Islam. MIST is for high school students who :  Want their talents to shine.  Desire to promote peace and understanding through artful expression.  Are tired of cliques amongst the Muslims in their high school, community, and the city of Chicago at large. meaningful discussionssuggest solutions  Wish to engage with other high school students across the Chicagoland area in meaningful discussions, combine resources in order to suggest solutions, and wish to unite all to work towards common goals.  Spark their competitive edge to compete at the regional as well as national level at MIST. ALL MUSLIM  Want ALL the students in their school to experience a common MUSLIM identity while being given the opportunity to express it uniquely …and MORE!

7. What does MIST consist of?  Competitions - more than 40 to choose from!from  Workshops - interactive, geared towards equipping you with contemporary knowledge, skills, & ideas to address issues you face—from a personal to a community level.  Ice Breakers - activities to ease you into your groups for the weekend, allowing you to drop any barriers and engage with your peers with an open mind.  Team Spirit - school chants, “spirit wear”, banners illustrating your school pride.  Awards Ceremony- monetary awards, trophies, and ribbons to celebrate your hard work.  2012 first prize was an Umrah trip. Second was an iPad! Money, classes, trophies, and medals are included. Put it on your college application!

8. THEME. It’s what makes MIST unique. Each year, MIST comes up with an annual theme which focuses the material of all competitions and the topics of all workshops on one specific and relevant concept or idea. No matter the language, patience has always been about hope and discipline, about a willingness to endure the sacrifice now, knowing that better days will come with principled perseverance. Patience is about the rise of a better self. Perhaps you’re inspired, or perhaps you’re still wondering how any of these examples are relevant to you as a high school student in North America. Think of the challenges you face on a day-to-day basis, and consider how you’re dealing with them. Think of the goals you want to achieve, and consider how you’re pursuing them. What kind of change do you want in your personal life? What kind of sacrifices are you ready to make? What do you think makes life worth the struggle? How can you make today better than yesterday? [Replaces Tajweed and Memorization]  Level 1: For beginners. 2nd half of Juz ‘amma (Surah Tariq to Surah Nas) with English. 4 per gender ▪ *Anyone with 2 juz/parah or more memorized cannot compete. Judges will ask at MIST this question so do not lie/cheat with Qur'an ▪ ***MIST really wants to encourage more people to compete in this!  Level 2: Choose from ONE of the four selections: ▪ Surahs 67-114, Surahs 12, 20, 21, 36, 55, 67, Surahs 18, 28, 31, 42, 49-53, Surah 3  Level 3: 1/4 of Qur'an. -4 per gender. 26.  Debate  Affirmative v. Negative  10 topics to prepare from  Improv  This competition is a fun way to display your creativity under spontaneous and timed circumstances. Each team must impress the judges in various hypothetical scenarios while under pressure to think on their feet and make the audience laugh!  Math Olympics  A battle of numbers based on Algebra and Geometry

Payment plans are available, money should never EVER stop anyone from competing.chicago@getmistified.com  …I’m not good at any of those competitions?- it doesn’t matter! Hundreds of high schoolers participate, 5 from each competition actually place. The rest just do it for fun or to try it out. So don’t be intimidated! Some sisters do Nasheed and have never sang outside of the shower. Soccer players play basketball. Quiet kids give speeches. Competitions like MIST bowl and knowledge tests give you ALL the information and preparation materials beforehand. It’s all about the experience and showing off what you can do

39.  …it’s not my crowd? You have the opportunity to meet over 300 other high school students from Illinois, Wisconsin, and Indiana. You’ll meet people you’d never have the chance to meet. Get your friends to do it with you. Just don’t miss out.  …I’m not involved in MSA? Doesn’t matter! Some high schools don’t even have MSAs! Even non-Muslims can do MIST.  …there’s only 2 Muslims/I’m the only Muslim at my school? Doesn’t matter! Most competitions are individual anyway  Bottom line, don’t miss out. MIST is becoming huge insha’Allah. It’s nothing like anything you’ve done or experienced before, and YOU have the opportunity to see what it’s all about. Take advantage of that opportunity!

42.  Must be a teacher, administrator, parent, sibling, or mentor older than 21.  Responsible for all of his/her students throughout the entire tournament.  All concerns a student has at MIST regarding fairness of rules, etc. must be addressed to the coach, who will then address those concerns to the designated Coaches’ Manager.  The coach will be the contact in case of an emergency, or if the student needs to be reached by his/her parent or guardian.  The coach must keep track of each student he/she is supervising and make sure they follow the MIST Rules and Regulations. He/she is responsible for setting meeting points and making sure the students are in their respective competitions or workshops on time.  Students will not be able to check-in at MIST unless their coach is present.  The coach must sign the student’s signature form BEFORE the student’s parent. He/she can only be a student’s coach if the parent has approved of him/her with their signature.  A team must have at least 1 male and 1 female coach. Coaches register for free. Registration must be completed for each coach.

43.  PPL: Purposeful, Public, Limited.  The interaction between genders should be made only when there's a sincere purpose; it should be limited to that purpose, (interaction should stop once the purpose has been met and not transgress any rules of shariah against touching, etc.), and it should be public, meaning there should be others around who would enjoin the good and forbid the evil if you fell astray.

44.  All participants must wear Business Professional or “Islamic” Clothing  Suits, Dress pants/long skirts, Thobes/Jilbabs, etc  Clothing should not have any offensive logos, texts or materials  All clothing must be loose for sisters AND brothers. Abide by the Shari’ah
