Corps Community Day Thursday, October 9, 2014 will be the annual celebration of Corps Community Day NHSC sites, clinicians, Ambassadors, alumni, and state, professional and academic partners across the nation host activities and events –Raise awareness about the vital role of the primary care workforce –Highlight the impact the Corps has in increasing access to primary care in underserved communities with limited access to health care 3

Increased Involvement and Reach! 4 An estimated 25,000 to 28,000 individuals were reached in 2013 by Corps Community Day efforts Media coverage by local and national outlets generated more than 300,000 impressions Nearly 63,000 unique users visited the NHSC web site during October 2013

University of Nebraska Medical Center Loan Repayment Presentation Health Profession students learned about loan repayment opportunities available in the state of Nebraska. Primary Care Transformation a 50,000 Ft View Health profession students heard from primary care providers about the transformation of primary care in patient delivery and education. University of Nebraska Medical Center Health Career Day This was an opportunity for Nebraska high school students to learn about opportunities in primary care disciplines and public health. The students attended three 30-minute interactive sessions of their choosing with various health professionals. 6

University of North Dakota School of Medicine & Health Sciences North Dakota Hospital Association Annual Conference NHSC Display Table top display that provided information on the NHSC and responded to questions about the program. Three Residency Program Presentations Family medicine residents attended the Office of Primary Care presentations and learned about the NHSC program. Discussions included information from practicing physicians in rural areas and job opportunities. Scholarship and Loan Repayment Presentation to medical students First and second year medical, nursing and behavioral health students attended a workshop to learn about state and federal loan repayment and scholarship programs. Inter-professional clinical activities were presented. Students discussed remote and rural areas clinical experiences with practicing rural clinicians. 8

Step 4: Share your Event 1.Your event will appear as the third event under any of the national/virtual events. 2.Each event on meetup.com has their own URL. Share the URL to collect your RSVPs (if applicable) or to create general buzz. 13

What Does This Mean to Me? 16 Some people in the United States have limited access to health care. Health profession students as well as providers considering primary care are forgoing these passions because of their educational debt. Share your knowledge of the NHSC on Corps Community Day. Give them a chance to pursue their passions!

Seven Steps in Seven Weeks Decide on the best activity/event fit for you and your community Identify partners/Create your invite list to: –assist in planning your activity or event –help promote your activity of event –speak and attend/participate in your activity or event Nail down the location and time. Promote and post your event on MeetUp.com! Reach out to local media. Follow-up with activity/event partners, speakers, participants. Share your success! 17

Students to Service Loan Repayment Program

FULL/PART TIME UP TO $120,000 3 YEARS FULL-TIME SERVICE UP TO $120,000 6 YEARS PART-TIME SERVICE The NHSC offers up to $120,000 in tax-free loan repayment for 3 years of full-time or 6 years of half-time service. Loan repayment begins during residency. With continued service, eligible providers may be able to pay off all their student loans.

ELIGIBILITY U.S. citizen or national Full-time student in the final year at an accredited school, pursuing a degree in Medicine (MD or DO) Planning to complete an accredited primary medical care residency in an NHSC-approved specialty (Internal Medicine, Family Practice, Pediatrics, OB/GYN, Psychiatry and Geriatrics) Have unpaid government or commercial loans for school tuition, reasonable educational expenses, and reasonable living expenses, segregated from all other debts
