2 Site Location

3 Site Analysis Lies on South facing slope that rises from 100m to 120m, 3km from existing communities in East Ayrshire. Site on reclaimed land (landscaped pit bing) and surrounded by agricultural land and forestry. Foundations suitable for settlement on relatively loose and incompact strata have to be considered. Nearby transport links include A70, A76 and B7038 with bus stop on the B7038 to the north of the site. This links to Auchinleck which has a train station an hour from Glasgow. Road link from site to B and A roads must be developed, only tracks exist.

4 Site Energy Analysis The average wind speed for the 1km² grid square is 4.6m/s at 10m height with peak at 24m/s. Average of 4495 hours of daylight per year which equates to roughly 51% of the year. 1342 of these hours on average are hours of direct sunlight which totals to roughly 15% of the yearly hours or 30% of the daylight hours. Glenmuir water flows to South of the site with an approximate flow rate of 16m ³ /s.

10 Renewables - Wind Power Types of wind turbine: A medium or large wind turbine for the whole community: -Natural slope: site suitable with wind power. -Can be very noisy. -Wind speed is quite low (4.6 m/s at 10m high) on the site. The wind turbine will be at its minimum efficiency. Small wind turbines on the roofs of the houses: -Provides electricity to each house. -The load will not be stable as they will supply energy to one house.

12 Photovoltaic and Solar Thermal It is thought that solar capture in the Scottish climate are ineffective, but this is incorrect. Scotland receives 60% of the solar energy that the equator receives. Solar panels are a real option for the UK environment. IN AYRSHIRE: Daily sunshine figures peak in May and June and are at their lowest in December. The very short winter days are amply compensated by long summer days (the sun sets at 22:00 hours in June). PV – electrical Solar Thermal - heating Ayrshire’s Climate
