D ATA, D ATABASE, DBMS, DBMS SOFTWARE, R ELATION, A PPLICATION, ENVIRONMENT, BENEFITS. Week 8 Mr.Mohammed Rahmath

D ATA Definition : data is defined as facts and statistics collected together for reference or analysis. Mr.Mohammed Rahmath

D ATABASE Mr.Mohammed Rahmath

Database : Database is a collection of information stored in an organized form in a computer. Database program : Database program is a software tool for organizing storage and retrieval of that information. File: A file is a collection of related information. Record: A Record is the information relating to one person, product, or event. Or Record: Each discrete chunk of information in a record is called a field Mr.Mohammed Rahmath

D ATABASE O PERATIONS 1. Browsing 2. Database Queries 3. Sorting Data 4. Printing Reports, Labels and Form Letters Mr.Mohammed Rahmath

R ELATIONAL D ATABASE Definition : Relational Database program is one that allows files to be related to each other so that changes in one file are reflected in other files automatically. Relations are the type of table interconnections. Mr.Mohammed Rahmath

T YPES OF R ELATIONSHIP 1. One-to-many relationship 2. Many-to-one relationship 3. One-to-one relationship 4. Many-to-many relationship Mr.Mohammed Rahmath

O NE - TO - MANY RELATIONSHIP Mr.Mohammed Rahmath

M ANY - TO - ONE RELATIONSHIP Mr.Mohammed Rahmath

O NE - TO - ONE RELATIONSHIP Mr.Mohammed Rahmath

M ANY - TO - MANY RELATIONSHIP Mr.Mohammed Rahmath

D ATA MINING AND RELATIONAL DATABASE Data mining is the extracting of the relevant data from all the sources of data. A relational database is the study of algorithms for searching and processing information in documents and databases; closely related to information retrieval. Mr.Mohammed Rahmath

A PPLICATIONS OF DATABASE Airlines and railways Banking sector Education Telecommunications Credit card transactions E-commerce Health care information systems and electronic patient record Digital libraries and digital publishing Finance(stock market) Sales Human resources Mr.Mohammed Rahmath

E NVIRONMENT General Purpose: Users perform a variety of database tasks, ranging from simple transactions to complex queries. Select this database environment for general purpose usage. Software Only: Allows you to install software components without creating a database. Mr.Mohammed Rahmath

B ENEFITS OF DATABASE 1. Reduced data redundancy 2. Reduced updating errors and increased consistency 3. Greater data integrity and independence from applications programs 4. Improved data access to users through use of host and query languages 5. Improved data security 6. Reduced data entry, storage, and retrieval costs 7. Facilitated development of new applications program Mr.Mohammed Rahmath
