Presentation on theme: "Lunch, Hall, Bathroom, and Bus Duty What grade would you give yourself on duties you have served in the past? How did you assess yourself?"— Presentation transcript:

Lunch, Hall, Bathroom, and Bus Duty What grade would you give yourself on duties you have served in the past? How did you assess yourself?

What legitimate reason(s) have you given for not being “at your post” for a particular duty?

Reassess yourself on school duties, assuming you have “missed” a duty in the past.

Did your absence from the duty change your grade? Why, or why not?

“How Estelle Failed Lunch Duty” Please read the article about Estelle.

Why do we grade students this way?

What’s the purpose of grades? Discuss this with those around you.

How does giving a zero fulfill the purpose of grading?

Estelle’s mean score with the zero is a 67.5%, whereas a 90% without the zero all together. With the purpose for grading in mind, which of the two mean scores more accurately reflects Estelle’s performance? As Unruhe mentions in the article, if a 60% had been assigned where the zero was, the mean score would have been an 82.5%. Where and why do you think he came up with the 60%?

Passed Tests + Passed Quizzes + zeros for not doing/completing homework can = F

From the last paragraph of the article… “Poor choices do not always mean that a student is not learning.”

and think. What should we do about “unattended duty?”
