  God’s Word will be preserved forever  Preservation does not guarantee access  Preservation does not guarantee 100% certainty  God’s Word is preserved in the totality of manuscripts Preservation

  In 1 Kings 22, Hilkiah found the Book of the Law in the Temple that had been lost 40 years.  During the Middle Ages, there was no Bible available in the common language.  Before the 1800s, the Bible was not available in Chinese.  Until modern times, the Bible was rarely available in the original languages  God uses people to provide access. Preservation or Access ?

  God promised that no letter of the Law will pass, NOT that we will be able to identify every letter.  There is no error-free copy of Scripture.  Who would decide what the authoritative text is?  The problem is our limited knowledge, not the Bible. Preservation or Certainty ?

  God promised to preserve His Word  God fulfilled His promise through fast and widespread copying  God did not preserve the original  Every copy has variations  The differences between the MSS do not undermine doctrine  God’s Word is preserved in the totality of the copies Preservation

 The differences do not undermine doctrine  Eph 1:7 In Him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses  Col 1:14 In whom we have redemption (through His blood), the forgiveness of sins The doctrine of forgiveness by Christ’s blood is not affected by whether or not “through His blood” is included in Col. 1:14. Preservation and Doctrine

 The tendency was to include uncertain material Luke 24:53  Oldest MSS have two variations  “And were continually in the Temple, blessing God”  “And were continually in the Temple, praising God”  Later MSS combine the two  “And were continually in the Temple, blessing and praising God” Preservation and the Text
