3  According to The University of Maryland Medical Center, “It is the science of nutrients and how they are digested, absorbed, transported, metabolized, stored, and eliminated by the body.” What is Nutrition?

4  Attaining the food required for health and growth. In simple terms…

5  Shop the perimeter of the grocery store.  Foods located along the perimeter are…  Dairy products, meats, fish, fruits, and vegetables. How to attain the proper foods?

7  Fruits/Vegetables  Fish/Meat  Breads/Pasta Foods Promoting Health & Growth

8  When eating healthy foods, we feel….  Happy  Energized  Eager to learn  Good about ourselves  Not tired Healthy Foods make us feel great! I feel Great!!!

9 Stay away from the Junk!  Junk Food consist of cookies, cupcakes, potato chips, and even chocolate chip cookies.  These items are found in the middle aisles.  An easy way to avoid these foods…don’t shop in the middle aisles.

10 Unhealthy Food Choices The main problems that occur when ingesting too much junk food are...  Heart disease  Diabetes  Lack of energy  Over weight  Fatigue  High body fat % BAD JUNK FOOD!!

11  Water  All natural fruit smoothie  Vegetable smoothies  Milk What liquids are healthy?

12  Soda  Juice  Energy drinks  Soft drinks  Any liquid high in sugar What liquids aren’t healthy?

13 FOOD LABELS!!!!!! How can I determine if something is healthy or not?

14  Food labels tell us the nutritional facts of the product. What are food labels?

16  After long activity, it is smart to fuel up!  Eat healthy foods right after a long work out.  The healthy foods will help your muscles grow. How the Body responds…

17  The human body on average needs 2,000 calories per day.  This is to maintain a normal human body weight average.  To gain weight the calories.  To lose weightthe calories. Take in at least 2,000 calories.

18  Its very important to burn the foods you consume.  If the food isn’t burned, its stored as fat.  Your body uses the food as energy. Exercise!!

19  Ride a bike.  Take a walk around the neighborhood.  Jog around the neighborhood.  Play a sport.  Walk to school.  Run up and down steps. Easy ways to stay active.
