“Technology is commonly thought of in terms of gadgets, instrument, machines, and devices….most (educators) will refer to technology as computers”

What is Education? Many academics refer to it as “learning”- Hodkinson & Macleod (2010) Then what is learning- to learn means “to acquire a new skill or insight”- Illich (1973) which is linked to Blooms’s taxonomy Other linked education to an end product- meaning there is a change in behaviour of the individual

Continue Roger (2003) indicated that learning is an ongoing process of task-conscious or acquisition learning that takes place all the time. Education can then be defined as conditions and arrangements where learning takes place.

What is Technology Comes from a Greek word called “techno- logia” meaning “skill” & understanding of something or a branch of knowledge. Lievrouw & Livingstone (2002) stated that technology involves 3 major aspects 1. Devices & Artifacts – technology itself & its design. 2. Activities & practice – what humans do with technology (i.e. human interaction, identity, culture, etc)

3. Context – meaning in what social arrangement the technology will be used. Therefore: Education + Technology can be combined by defining it as a “ organised process of learning in using skills (devices) to acquire and branch knowledge”.

Any useful definition of educational technology, therefore, must focus on the process of applying tools for educational purposes, and the materials used.

However, Saettler (1990) urges “The historical function of educational technology is a process rather than a product.”

In education, the combination of process and product merges instructional procedures with instructional tools. Process Product
