2 How can PowerTeacher help your school? Allows administrators to see grades and attendance for all students One system carries all of the students records for their life All contact information for each student is easily accessible in case of an emergency

3 What can PowerTeacher do for you? All grades are for the current year and past years are accessible Easy look up for parent contact information Check on your students attendance and grades for all classes Easily print reports for class records, attendance and grades for the class or individuals Assignments can be linked for easy access

4 How can PowerTeacher help Parent/Students? Students can download the app and have immediate access to their grades Students can see what work they are missing Students know their grades if work isn’t able to be passed back yet Parents can track students grades and click to email teachers with concerns

5 Key Tips All areas and content information are subject to use per your school and district Personalize it: Use the settings to customize the gradebook Always click on the Blue Power Teacher in the upper left hand corner to return to the main screen.

6 What can I do on Power School? Note: These items and usage can vary from school to school Check out the Daily Bulletin Use the staff directory Record the daily meals for your class Take attendance Create seating charts View individual student information

7 Logging in to PowerSchool You will use the username and password provided to from the district. Once you log in the first time, you can then change your password. If you get locked out, you will need to contact the secretary or appropriate person in your district to reset your username and password

8 Daily Bulletin Administrators, secretaries, counselors and teachers can post announcements, messages and reminders to other staff members and parents. Here’s how: From the start page Click Daily Bulletin to view the message Click on the calendar to view other days Email the administrator if you want to create a daily bulletin

10 What kind of student information can I find?

11 Student PageWhat can I find here? Cumulative Grade Information Displays the student’s GPA and class rank information. Schools decide what information appears on this page. Demographics Displays the student’s basic demographic information. It also contains an email link to the parent or guardian. Final Grade Entry Use this page to enter final grades for specific standards for the student. Your school decides whether this page is active. Meeting Attendance Displays a student’s attendance record for the entire term for every course in which he or she is currently rolled. Net Access Summary Displays a summary of the number of times that the parents and student have accessed PowerSchool via the Internet. Print a Report Use this page to select a school-created report to print for the student. Quick Lookup This is the default student page. Displays a summary of the student’s current grades and attendance for each class. Click the blue links to access additional information. Recommendations Displays the teacher’s course recommendations for the student. ScheduleDisplays the student’s current class schedule. Standards Use this page to view the student’s progress on specific standards outlined by your state, district and school. Student PhotoDisplays the student’s photo if available. Submit Log Entry Use this page to create a log entry for discipline or other anecdotal information for the student’s permanent record. Teacher Comments If the gradebook is not used, displays comments entered by the teacher. Comments can be free from or selected from a comment blank. Comments that are published can be viewed by parents or students via Parent Access. Your school decides whether this page is active. Term Grades Displays the student’s stored grades for the current year.

12 Student Information There is an ample amount of personal information available about each student. Where do I find the student information? Navigate to the start page Click on the backpack icon Click a student’s name Select the appropriate screen

13 Finding a Team Number If you need to talk to the appropriate principal, counselor or secretary you will need to find the student’s team number. Here’s how: Log in to Power Teacher Click on the class the student is in on the left hand side and select the student Click the dropdown for demographics on the right hand side Search for the homeroom The dash next to their homeroom number indicates the team they are on

14 Taking Attendance Taking attendance in PowerSchool allows all the teachers and administrators to show the students attendance for all classes. Here’s How: Navigate to the start page and click on the chair icon Select the date Select the appropriate attendance code for each student Click submit

15 Launching your Gradebook You have signed in to PowerTeacher but now you need to add grades and assignments! You need to launch your gradebook! Here’s how: Login to PowerTeacher using your username and password Click on the blue square next to Gradebook and click Run when the pop up comes up.

16 Getting to know your gradebook Always check to make sure you are on the correct year, quarter semester etc. in the drop down in the top left corner Assignments Tab: Click to see a list of assignments Student Info: Click to get information about individual students Grade Setup: Set up quarter and semester grades Class Content: Add descriptions about each class Reports: Run various grade reports, attendance rosters etc Attendance: Take attendance for each class Notifications (!): Alerts you when someone is added, dropped, birthday occurs or administrator views your gradebook

18 Creating Categories You can add assignments to the gradebook anytime during the school year. You can also choose whether or not to make the assignment available for others to view. Here’s how: On the scoresheet, click the + Fill in all necessary information on the screen Click the publish tab if you want others to see it. (If it’s not clicked an (!) will appear on the assignment) Click save in the lower right hand corner.

19 Category Weights Some classes have assignments that are worth more or need weighted grades Here’s how: Launch your gradebook Click Grade Setup (at the top) Click on the Quarter you wish to set up Click on Category Weights Click add to your necessary category weights Enter weight amount for each category. (You may need to double click for it to register) Click Save in the bottom right hand corner Repeat for each Quarter

20 Creating Category Weights Want to see it done? Here is a video on how to create your category weights.

21 Semester Weights After weighting your assignments, you may need to weight your semester grades to include both quarters and the final exam. Here’s how: Launch your gradebook Click Grade Setup (at the top) Click the term you wish to set up Enter the amount for each term Click save in the bottom right hand corner.

22 Creating Assignments You can add assignments to the gradebook anytime throughout the school year. Here’s how: On the scoresheet tab click the (+) button located above the names Fill in the appropriate information regarding each assignment Click the publish tab to allow everyone to see the assignment Click save in the lower right hand corner to save it

23 Want to add bonus points or extra points to an assignment? If students can earn bonus points or extra points on an assignment you need to put the number of points in the box titled Extra Points in the Assignment Setup Box. For Example: If you give an extra credit assignment, the number of point possible would be 0 and the amount of extra credit they can earn will go in the Extra Points box.

25 Copying Assignments If you teach multiple sections of the same class, you will want to copy the assignment if it is the same for all classes. Here’s how: On the scoresheet, right click the assignment, you wish to copy and choose copy assignment Select the assignments you wish to copy Click Next Select the classes you wish to copy the assignment to Click ok! It’s now added to your additional classes.

26 Entering Grades You have created assignments, given the students work, and graded now what? Enter the grades Here’s how: After creating the assignment simply enter the number of points the student has received Click save when done

27 What if someone was absent or didn’t do the assignment? After adding scores you can right click and have multiple options to choose from. You can: Select Missing Exempt (Exclude) Mark an assignment as Late Enter a comment regarding the comment

28 Adding Comments You can add comments to any assignment to let a parent know information about it. Here’s how: Right click on the box of the assignment for the person Choose Show Score Inspector Add your comment Click Save

29 Entering Grades-Special Features- Filling Grades You have entered all the grades but numerous students haven’t turned in their work. You don’t have to click each individual one Here’s how: Right click on a student for the assignment Click Fill Check the boxes you want to fill the empty scores with. You can mark them Missing, Give the students a 0 or put a special code. **More than one box can be checked.**

30 Special Features-What else can I do?!

31 Rounding your grades to a specific number of decimal points. Using decimal points in overall students grades can be helpful especially at the end of the quarter when deciding between 2 different grades. Here’s how to set that up: Click tools at the top Choose preferences Select Grading Select rounded if you wish to round and to the number of decimal points you wish to round to.

32 Entering Grades-Special Features- Creating your own codes Each teacher is unique and keeps records differently. Creating codes gives those teachers an opportunity to customize it for them. For example if a student is absent I could create a code ABS to show me and them that they were absent the day of the assignment. Here’s how: Click tools Click preferences Click score codes and click add Enter code and a description Enter the score value

33 Want to track the items collected from students? You can track the items collected from students or papers turned in without assigning a grade to it. Simply uncheck the box called “Include in Final Grade”

34 What Reports can I run? There are a variety of reports you obtain from Power Teacher. Some examples include: Attendance Grids Individual Student Report Class Scoresheets Student Roster (with student information) Customized student rosters

36 Running Reports-Attendance Grid Here’s how: Click on the reports tab at the top of the page Click on the attendance option Option 1-Blank Squares at the top with no dates Select no dates and choose the number of days you want and run the report OR Option 2-With a list of dates at the top Select the start and End Dates Click Run Report

37 Running Reports-Customized Student Roster Create your own class roster with specialized tabs at the top. Here’s how: Click on the reports tab at the top of the page Click Student Roster Add your own items/titles to the blank boxes (Add check marks in the box as you go along) Click on Run Report

38 Running Reports-Individual Student Reports Want to hand out grade sheets to give to your students? Here’s how: Click on the Reports Tab Click Individual Student Report Check the boxes of information you want to include Click Run Report

39 Running Reports-Class Scoresheets Update your students on their grades without printing out individual student reports! Here’s how: Click on the reports tab Click on scoresheet Select student number to not disclose student names Select Final Grades & Assignments (you can click assignments if you just want final grades) Click run reports

40 What if I only need a grade sheet for one student? You can do that!! Follow the same steps as before but… Click the active menu on the left hand side. Select the student On the main screen select groups/students you need Click Run Report

41 What do I need to do at Interims? Check the scores for each student to make sure they are correct Add comments necessary for each student ◦Make sure you are under the correct quarter ◦Right click on the student’s percent ◦Select Show Inspector ◦Type the date the grades are due ◦Enter the comment or use the comment bank to insert comments ◦Click save Note: A blue “C” will appear next to the percent when a comment is added

42 What to do at the end of the quarter? 5 Things you need to do at the end of each quarter: 1. Recalculate grades 2. Final grade comments 3. Overriding grades 4. Verify your grades 5. Secure your grades

43 1. Recalculate Grades Click tools at the top of scoresheet Choose recalculate final scores Overall class final grade Check update score codes Click ok Note: *All of these steps may not be present for everyone. **Grades may or may not change slightly when this step is performed

44 2. Final Grade Comments Right click on the percent for the student Click show score inspector Type the date the grades are due under the score tab Enter the comment under the score tab or choose one from the comment Note: A blue “C” will appear next to the percent when a comment has been made

45 3. Overriding Grades You must be on your scoresheet tab in order to do this. Right click on the student score Click show score inspector Under the score tab, click Manual Override Change the % or Grade to reflect what they should have Click Close Note: When a score is overridden it will appear bold or italicized

46 4. Verify Report Under the reports tab Click final grade and comment verification Select the appropriate reporting term Click open Print a copy for your records and to check over Repeat for each class

47 5. Secure Your Grades Under the scoresheet tab Click the appropriate grading term in the gray box at the top above the names Check final grades complete It will turn green upon completion to alert administration grades are closed Repeat for each class

48 What do I do at the end of a Semester? Complete the same steps you do as you would for the end of the quarter Choose the appropriate Semester from the drop down and verify the grade is correct using the method your school chooses to use. Secure your grades just like you did for the end of the quarter.

50 Reminders: Always save when you are done with a page You can always revert back to the previous settings before saving If you have an (!) for one of your assignments you didn’t publish your assignment and need to click on the assignment to do so Deleting an assignment from a class doesn’t delete the assignment from all of the classes
