What is Natural Gas? Natural gas is almost pure methane when in it’s in its purest form. Natural gas is colorless, shapeless, and odorless in it’s purest form. It’s a combustible mixture of hydrocarbon gases.

What is in Natural Gas? Natural gas is made up of: 70-90% Methane 0-20% Ethane 0-20% propane 0-20% butane 0-8% Carbon dioxide 0-0.2% Oxygen 0-5% Nitrogen 0-5% Hydrogen Sulphide Trace Rare Gases

Where does it come from? Natural gas is found underneath the surface of the earth.

Renewable? Or not? Natural gas is a non renewable source and takes centuries to be made.

What makes Natural gas different from other fossil fuels? Unlike Most other fossil fuels natural gas is clean burning and emits lower levels of potentially harmful byproducts into the air.

What is methane? Methane is a molecule made up of one carbon atom and 4 hydrogen atoms and referred to as CH 4

How is natural gas formed? Natural gas is a fossil fuel like oil and coal. Fossil fuels are accentually the remains of plants and animals and microorganisms that lived millions of years ago.

How was Natural gas found? In about 1,000 B.C. a herdsman was walking and came across what looked like a “burning spring” a flame from a fissure in a rock.

Who was the first to learn how to use it and what did they do? The Chinese were the first known people to learn how to use it 500B.C. They found places where the gas was seeping through the surface. The Chinese formed pipelines using bamboo to transport the gas, where it was used to boil sea water to make it drinkable.

Is natural gas one of the cleanest forms of gas? Yes, Natural gas is one of the cleanest forms of gas because it only gives off carbon dioxide, water vapors and small amounts of nitrogen oxides when it is burned.

What is natural gas used for? 25% goes to electric power. 25% for industrial 35% residential 19% commercial 0% vehicle fuel

The total energy consumed compared to natural gas.

So… As you can see, Liquids (39%) are used the most followed by Natural gas and coal (23%), Nuclear (8%), Renewable (6%), and last is Bio-fuels (1%).
