15 OARS ™ enables Daystar to offer students a secure, online management tool that it couldn’t provide on its own—without the cost of acquiring and maintaining new on-premises technology. OARS ™ hosted management and administration allowed students to register from all over the world, manage courses and receive transcripts across their Mombasa, Athi River and Town campuses. The university already managed its students but through an on premise solution, which meant long admission queues and high cost in time and administration. There’s a lot of power in having all our students using the same management tool. OARS ™ has helped us by improving individual student productivity, and facilitating administrative efficacy. 16 After deployment, student use of campus e-mail increased substantially and cut the school’s e-mail costs by $5,000 annually. The school deployed Microsoft’s cloud mail in response to demands for a more familiar interface and better collaboration features from students. Before, the school spent approximately $5,000 a year to offer and manage an e-mail service, but only about 17% of students used it. At Kimathi University, Microsoft Cloud email is definitely a student-driven initiative. Our first year have been so successful that the students are now calling for the service to be mandatory. 17 The solution fosters collaborative communication and, because it’s hosted, minimizes cost for the school. They upgraded the existing solution and deployed Microsoft’s Cloud solution in its place. The school needed to manage their unreliable, resource- intensive e-mail service. We use the Microsoft Cloud to communicate to parents and send grouped emails.
