2 Abridge (verb) To make shorter Often used with writing

3 Abridge (verb) The book on the left is the original copy of the story. Someone abridged the book to make the much shorter book on the right.

4 Adherent (noun; adjective) (n) a follower or supporter (adj) attached, sticking to

5 Adherent (noun and adjective) Ace bandage wraps are especially adherent. Watch out if you have hairy legs, the might stick to the hair and pull it out!

6 Altercation (noun) An angry argument

7 Altercation (noun) Although we cannot hear this argument, the squirrel and Darth Vader are having a serious altercation. Hope the fight gets settled soon.

8 Cherubic (adjective) Resembling an angel that looks like a chubby baby angel.

9 Cherubic (adjective) Many people associate the word cherub with this painting by Rafael of angels. You would say these angels (and people who remind you of them) are cherubic.

11 Condone (verb) I simply cannot condone dressing your dogs in costume. I think it’s cruel.

13 Dissent (verb and noun) Thomas Jefferson said, “Dissent is the highest form of patriotism”. What do you think? Is it okay to openly show your dissent of the government and show you disagree with its policies?

15 Eminent (adjective) Former President Bush gave the eminent soldier the Purple Heart medal after his distinguished actions in Iraq.

16 Exorcise (verb) To drive out by magic To dispose of something troublesome, menacing or oppressive

17 Exorcise (verb) Miss Swanson can’t watch scary movies like “The Exorcism of Emily Rose” because it freaks her out to watch characters get exorcised! Yikes!!

18 Fabricate (verb) To make or manufacture To make up or invent

19 Fabricate (verb) This artist is fabricating a 6-foot tall painting of a woman.

20 Irate (adjective) Extremely angry

21 Irate (adjective) When I go shopping, I sometimes see irate customers at the store yelling at the sales clerks. People are crazy!
