2  Unlike the formal commands, informal commands have different forms for positive commands and negative commands.  Informal commands (tú form commands) are used when telling friends, family, people you know well and children what to do.

3  To form positive tú form commands, use the third person present tense form (including stem-changes).  Por ejemplo: Listen! Read! → ¡Escucha! → ¡ Lee !

4  Go straight!  ¡Sigue!

5  Start the homework!  ¡Empieza la tarea!

6  Study Spanish!  ¡Estudia el español!

7  The following verbs have irregular positive tú command forms: Irregular positive tú form tener venir poner salir decir ser ir hacer ten ven pon sal ve di sé haz

8  Do the homework!  ¡Haz la tarea!

9  Come here!  ¡Ven aquí!

10  Put the cookies in the oven.  Pon las galletas en el horno.

11  To tell friends, family, people you know well and children NOT to do something, use the negative tú form commands.  Negative tú form commands are formed the same way as Ud. and Uds. form commands and follow the same rules. Take the “yo” form of the present tense Drop the –o ending Add –es to –ar verbs and –as to –er/-ir verbs Place “no” in front of the command form

12  Don’t talk!  ¡No hables!

13  Don’t leave!  ¡No salgas!

14  Don’t order the fish!  ¡No pidas el pescado!

15  The same verbs that are irregular in the Ud. and Uds. form commands are also irregular in the negative tú form commands. Neg. tú command dar estar ir saber ser des estés vayas sepas seas

16  Don’t be mad!  ¡No estés enojado!

17 DDon’t go to the store today. NNo vayas a la tienda hoy.

18  Don’t give bad advice. (consejos)  No des consejos malos.

19  Indirect and direct object pronouns must be attached to the end of positive commands.  When adding one pronoun, accent the 3 rd to last vowel. When adding two pronouns, accent the 4 th to last vowel.  Por ejemplo: Dame el libro. Dámelo.

20 IIndirect and direct object pronouns must precede negative commands. PPor ejemplo: No me dés el libro. No me lo dés.
