Creating Saddle Stitch Booklets with Command Work Station 5

Booklet Spread 11x17 combined pages Reader Spread 8.5x11 single sheets Step 1: How is your file set up? Please note I will be working with a common 8.5x11 booklet.

Lets Start with the Reader Spread! Spreads should be un-checked If you are printing directly from Adobe In Design this will be the first print screen you will see.

This is the size of your single pages This is the size of the imposed book or “flat size of the book” Once you select setup or print properties it will take you to the print driver… We are going to start on the first tab, Quick Access

Next we are going to jump to the Layout Tab This helps you set up your cover. If you have a double sided cover that you want to print on cardstock and are not using the same stock for the cover as the inside of the booklet then you are going to scroll down and look at this section. Set the front and back cover to print on both sides. After that select define cover and select your paper weight for cover and tray the cover stock is in. I recommend not using any cover above 80lb for booklets and using the bypass tray or oversized tray for the cover stock.

Finally the Finishing Tab! I have noticed that the Outside fold order and face down normal printing settings work best, in terms of making sure things print on the right side of the page and get folded correctly. Now you are done and can hit print!

Booklet Spread 11x17 Since the file is already imposed on 11x17 paper we are going to select 11x17 for the document size. This booklet will be printed on 11x17 paper. Setting up booklet printing for a booklet spread is similar to the individual reader spreads only less steps. Remember to get to the print driver, this is under printer properties after you select file print.

Printing Cover of Booklet on Cover Stock! This is the tab you will click on. This is the pages you want on cardstock. So this would be for a double sided front and back cover. Click on new page range. Tell the printer the weight of the cover stock and which tray it is in.

We skip the special booklet layout tab, because we do not need to tell the printer to impose the sheets for us. We can go directly to the finishing tab and set it up just like we did before! Now you are done and can hit print! Finishing!
