Electricity and Magnetism http://video.mit.edu/watch/the-wonders-of-electricity-and-magnetism-9964/ 1. Name the 2 things the speaker always carried with him 2. Can life exist without electricity? Why or why not? 3. How is magnetism inseparable from electricity? 4. Describe the historical importance of amber

Magnetism The attraction of a magnet for another object Attraction When two magnets or magnetic objects are close to each other, there is a force that attracts the poles together Repulsion When two magnetic objects have like poles facing each other, the magnetic force pushes them apart.

Magnetic Pole The area of a magnet where the effect is the strongest. The magnetic field is strongest at the poles of a magnet. It allows magnets to be attracted to each other without touching  Magnets may be cut in half, but each piece maintains its magnetic properties

MRI Magnetic Resonance Imaging How does MRI work? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGcZvSG805Y What is the difference? MRI vs. CT Scan? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRPD-B_hpbo

Magnetism http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3ijMVZPHD8 1-Why do magnets stick? 2-Can you see magnetism? 3- What mineral can be made into a magnet? 4- What 3 things can stick to a magnet? 5- What are moving electrons called? 6- What is an electromagnet? 7- Why do compasses work? 8- Where is the Earth’s magnetic field? 9- How do electrons move in a magnet? 10-What happens when you break a magnet in ½? 11-How can you make a magnet out of a pin? 12- Name 6 everyday objects made of magnets.
