Information from IIRC website http://iirc.niu.edu/School.aspx? Rock Island HS in 2006 met AYP Rock Island HS in 2011 – shows a steady decline(27.5%) Progress towards 100% of students meeting standards in reading & mathematics by 2014

A consortium of 24 states working together to develop a common set of K-12 assessments in English and math anchored in what it takes to be ready for college and careers. The assessments are in the process of being written by a committee of administrators, teachers, educational consultants, and the ISBE (Illinois State Board of Education) to adhere to the newly written state Common Core Standards. Testing set to begin in 2014-2015 school year

What can be done in the short term to address student achievement on the PSAE?  Tim Wernentin – Principal  Georgia Kouris – Associate Principal  Carmine Draude – Assistant Principal  Michelle Lillis – Math Department Chair  Mary Mendelin – English Department Chair Committee Members Assisted by: Members of the Math and English Departments Deans Counselors

Short Term Strategy to Incorporate PSAE Testing Preparation Class During the Day Determined by: Data Teams School Improvement Team Administration School Board

Why This Strategy? Strategy used in 2006 – one and only time RIHS met AYP Many years of strategy use during early bird setting showed students likely to improve scores by more than 2 points. Chosen by math and English department members School Improvement Team included the strategy in the school’s improvement plan. In-service information and ACT research data shows students likely to improve with intervention. Materials available

Dr. Tim Schapp Founder and President of the Gaines Education Group Shared students are likely to increase composite ACT scores with intervention. 2008,2009,2010 Presented in- service instruction to RIHS on item analysis of ACT information.

For the purposes of this presentation I will limit my discussion of Implementation of this project to the Math Portion only. The previous slide shows results of study conducted by ACT of 150,000 students to show expected student growth from the Explore to the ACT

Explore Scores of RIHS Current Juniors who will take the next PSAE in April of 2012 According the ACT study our students can be expected to grow 3.5 points with intervention, which will still be below CRS (College Readiness Standards) of 22, but if they can reach the expected 19 they can meet the state standards for “meeting”. 22 RIHS School Board Presentation Feb. 2010
