7 THE THRESH, AND WHY YOU MUST HOLD IT Definition: Threshold means meeting students at the door, setting your classroom culture expectations before they even enter the room. This is the single most important moment for setting those expectations. The threshold technique is part of establishing and maintaining strong, positive, disciplined systems and routines in your classroom (Lemov, 366).

8 RANK YOURSELF Proficiency (0) I’m brand new to these ideas of Threshold… (1) I’m in the practice stage, though I haven’t tried Threshold yet in class… (2) I’m beginning to use Threshold… (3) I use Threshold regularly… O …and excited to try it. O …but I know I can make it work. O …and love how it works. O …and add touches that my students love. O …and undecided about my ability to pull it off. O …because I still have questions about how to do it right. O …with mixed results I need to evaluate. O …but I may be over- doing it or taking too long. O …and not sure it’s for me. O …because I still doubt its value for my classroom. O …but it doesn’t seem to work or suit me or my students. O …but at times I let it slide.
