What is INSIGHT? Insight is a 9 hour, early intervention program for youth who violate school policy, receive an alcohol or other drug related charge through court, or have any other negative experience with Alcohol/Drugs. The program serves adolescents in grades 7-12 and is designed to accomplish two objectives: Education – Participants will learn about the physical, emotional, family, vocational, achievement, and legal consequences of Alcohol/Drug use.

Personal – Participants are guided through an examination of their own alcohol or drug use. Patterns of thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and pressures are explored so they may understand this process and learn to make better choices. Schedule – Usually on Mondays right after school from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Held in the HS Conference meeting room. What is INSIGHT? (Continued)

The Insight Program Intake Interview The Intake interview is an informal meeting with the parent or guardian and the youth to gather information about the nature of the referral. The youth will complete testing that will be explained at the exit interview. The Insight Class INSIGHT is held from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm every Monday right after school in the HS Conference meeting room. Parents/Guardians are welcome to attend. The sessions are required for each referred student to attend 9 sessions. A snack is provided for registered students. Class size is no smaller than five and not larger than twelve. The class is a mandatory course for particular referred students.

The Insight Program (continued) Some of the topics discussed include, but are not limited to: physical, mental, emotional effects of Alcohol and Drug use; negative consequences; the addiction process; differences between abuse and dependence; family dynamics in relations to use; and healthy choices. Exit Interview The final interview will summarize the experience with the parent or guardian and the youth. Test results and recommendations are discussed.

Parents and Guardians Parents/Guardians are required to attend a 1 hour course of their choice. Parents/Guardians will be provided with valuable information about Alcohol and Drugs, the effects of Alcohol and Drugs, and suggestions for intervention. Parents/Guardians are very beneficial and can help ensure the safety and well-being of their child.
