3 So what makes a hero?  Make a list of attributes.  Partner share

5 Unusual Birth  May not discover their parents until they are older  Hercules discovers who his parents are as a teenager  Parents may be gods or royalty (King/Queen)  Hercules son to Zeus  May be born into danger  An evil wizard tried to kill Harry, but killed his parents  A shark eats all of the eggs, except one, which becomes Nemo.

6 Call to Adventure  An event happens that changes the heroes life and calls him to adventure  Nemo is caught by the fisherman and taken  Hercules finds out his father is Zeus and wants to join him  Harry discovers that he is a wizard

7 Crossing the Threshold The hero crosses from the known world to an unknown world where he will become a hero – Marlin goes into the open sea and leaves the coral to find Nemo – Hercules goes to Thebes to become a hero so he can return to Mt. Olympus – Harry goes to Hogwarts

8 Help or Guidance in Quest  Hero has spiritual guidance or help in quest  Marlin meets Dory  Hercules has Pegasus and Phil  Harry Potter has his friends and Hagrid.

9 Special Weapon or Power  Only the hero can wield his weapon  Hercules Strength  Harry Potter’s wand  Marlin father’s love

10 Tests and Trials n Hero performs feats while on Quest  Marlin faces many dangers in the sea  Hercules fights many battles  Harry faces many battles as a wizard

11 The Supreme Ordeal  The final battle where the hero achieves the goal  Marlin finds Nemo  Hercules sacrifices himself to save Meg and proves himself a Hero  Harry finally defeats Voldermort

12 Return n Hero returns to his homeland when his journey is complete  Marlin takes Nemo back to the coral  Hercules returns to his place in heaven, but leaves with Meg  Harry Potter goes back home at the end of every book
