2 Progress Report NSDS Achieved a performance rating of 96%
Employed and unemployed learnership/apprenticeships targets exceeded by 31% SMME support – exceeded target by 37% Established two ISOEs, one in Vredenburg to support the Saldanha Bay fabrication hub in the repair and manufacturing of offshore oil rigs and one in Eastern Cape, Midlands Uitenhage to support the COEGA IDZ Sponsored the training of 11 students in India on the design, development and manufacturing of tooling. September 2006

Eastern Cape Fully participate in Provincial HRD plan for the five identified sectors in the PGDP Merseta is the convenor of the manufacturing working group Merseta is involve in the set of Provincial Skills development Coordinating Forum Merseta participates in the Coega development programme Supported the recommendation for NSF funding from the Province Mpumalanga and Limpopo Partnered with the Provincial department of Public Works and Road and Transport on the implementation of Learnerships September 2006

Gauteng And North West Participant in the North West Provincial SDF Member of the North West Manufacturing Working Group Alignment of SETA SSP to Provincial GDS Implement skills development within 15 SMME affecting the second economy Partnered with Central Johannesburg College in the women in motor project for Alexander residents Freestate & Northern Cape Member of Free State and Northern Cape PSDF Committee In process of aligning activities with JIPSA Partnership with Umsobomvu Youth Fund targeting the youth. Western Cape Member of tooling imitative in the Western Cape Members of the South African Oil and Gas Supply Initiative Working with Ship repair initiative to close skills gap Key Role player in Boat Building initiative Working closely with the Provincial Department of Transport and Public Works Kwazulu Natal No Representation on the PSDF as yet Represented on the KZN DoL – INTERSETA Forum In process of reviewing Provincial HRD Strategy to ensure proper alignment with Provincial HRD Strategy September 2006

Challenges faced by the PSDF Coordination of SETA activities within Provinces to assist in the achievement of Provincial HRD Objectives PSDF and PGDS to integrate its activities relevant departments Workplace for experiential training of learners The establishment or revival of the PSDF for Gauteng Communication regarding the activities of the PSDFs Size of Eastern Cape and Northern Cape Provinces PSDF needs to be revived in Western Cape September 2006
